Picked up my LCR yesterday, on the drive home noticed a few things im not entirely happy with. Cant really complain though as I got it for a good price :)
Came from a Fabia vRS, so not used to petrol VAG engines yet!

Anyway, here goes

1. Temp gauge sits at 60 sitting on the motorway. Climbs up when you hit a hill, then cools down again going down the other side. Sits at 90 when driving about town.

2. Power noticeably drops off when you hit 5500rpm. Is this normal as the wastegate starts opening, or is it 'boost creep'. AFAIK, it still has the standard dump valve fitted, though the car has previously been remapped, though now removed. Still has a Forge induction kit and FMIC though. How do you tell if it has an uprated actuator spring fitted?

3. Only got 1 key with the car, and the metal loop on the end of it is broken off, so i cant attach it to my keys. Had a look through the key guide, but got confused as there is a lot of info to take in, and also some conflicting info... How easy is it to either swap the internals over from my key into another casing? Dont have the SKC either, so looks like it probably SEAT for a new key or 2, unless someone up in scotland has vag-com and vagtacho. WIll try posting in the vag-com section too...

4. Doesnt have cruise control. I retro-fitted it into my fabia using a kit from TPS, and had it activated. I assume its the same (switch and harness kit) for a leon too?

5. Gearchange is a bit sloppy. Is there anything common for wearing (bushes or cables etc)?

6. When you accelerate quickly, upto say 4000rpm, then back off before changing gear, there is a substancial 'jerk' when you back off the throttle. It may be totally normal, but like I said, not used to VAG engines, let alone turbo'd petrol engines. Just a bit annoying as I like to be a smooth driver but cant with this jerk

Any advice gratefully recieved :D

Sensor issue?? - check VAGcom

Hard to tell on this. MAF and N75 valves come to mind, but again it would be easier to see with logs from VAGcom. Dump valves can be problematic on these cars, especially when pushed with maps / mods, but I can't imagine a fault this prescriptive would be driven by DV.

pass

Believe so

Syncro? Mine was a bit notchy, but never sloppy. Are any gears hard to get, or bounce out if you are high revving and you go for a gear?

Clutch / dual mass flywheel? Not normal behaviour from any of the cars I had.
What mileage / age is the car?

1. Could be your thermostat

2. Would bet money this is your maf sensor

3. Yes you can change your internals and make a new fob. many threads on here about this.

4. I think this is correct from some of the threads i have read.

5. hmm not sure. My 2nd is a little crunchy untill warmed up then seems to be much smoother common issue i think..

6. again this could be your maf sensor i have experienced 2 and 6 when my maf went.

Just my opinions keep us updated hope you get it all sorted ;)

1. Could be your temp sender, change it to the upgraded green sensor

2. MAF

3. You can buy a new key for £160 from dealer of buy a new case from ebay and change internals over very easy to do.

4. You can get cruise control fitted. Im doing this myself this year!

5. Change your gearbox oil that should sort it

6. maybe clean your throttle body?

1. also its normal for the car to get to 90 in under 5mins on idle and then for the fans to kick in

3. i have the same issue with key but i do have another key but with no buttons, but can't put my key on a keyring either so anoying constantly worried i've lost it try looking on ebay for a vw fob and change it over

6. With the power issue check for splits in pipes, might need uprated hoses see below

http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/siliconehose.htm - M225IND

"after encountering the collapse of the OEM intake air hose on the Audi S3 (210 & 225) and TT 225 engines (this typically occurs around 5000rpm) that had been re-chipped, The Forge development team set about the manufacture of a hose with re-inforced walls to remedy the problem"

im getting one of these fitted got my car in dec

So, looks like a thermostat and/or temp sender is needed, possibly a MAF sensor also. Need to find someone local-ish to me and get some logs/fault codes read. Also get my finger out and fit the CC kit, get it all done at the same time

Going to have a better read through the key guides and see if I feel brave enough to take my only key apart :-o

As for the gearchange, it is sometimes a bit stiff to go into 1st/reverse. Feels like something is preventing it going in (Not like a dragging clutch though) Sometimes goes in 1st time, others it takes a few attempts...

The jerking, im putting down to not being used to the car as yet. Again, will see if there are any codes, and see if anything can be diagnosed from logs etc...

FWIW, it already has silcone TIP and I/C hoses etc. Car is an 03 plate, with 108k on the clock...
