Keeping up with Nissan Pulsar/Punto GT

I used to own the Nissan 200sx. The engine in that is almost identical to the Pulsar (2.0 4 cyl 16v turbo). They are so many easy modifications you can do to these. 300bhp can be done with £500. There are loads with 450 plus and it can even be taken to 750BHP.
So if you come up against one thats modified, don't be suprised if you are left in the trail of rubber!!!
A standard one would be no match for a revo LCR. They are quite heavy due to the 4WD. In fact they are the same weight as a 200SX (1250KG).

in the UK does the 200SX get SR or KA engines? in the US the Sylvias/200SX's get the KA engine I think.

If the pulsar has an SR20 engine then that would be one mental motor.

In the UK the 200SX and Pulsar have the SR20.

I used to have a GTi-R, officially power was 220bhp for UK sunny and 227bhp for import Pulsar. I believe that the Japanese used to have a gentleman’s agreement on power output of cars so many were quoted below what they really had.

My GTi-R would launch like a bat out of hell in any conditions and I am positive that it would thrash my LCR225 from standstill. Even in the midrange and once rolling a GTi-R would be quicker as they have no noticeable turbo lag, at silly speeds I am sure that the LCR would accelerate quicker as the GTi-R has the aerodynamics of a brick! Although very fast they take a mile to stop, the standard brakes are worse than awful, the Brembos in an LCR and in another league!!!

Overall the standard LCR is much better car than a standard GTi-R, overall all-round performance is better and you don’t have to treat it like it was made of china. The GTi-R is a very fast 4WD turbo car and nothing I have ever experienced comes close in terms of useable power.

I just hope that when I get my LCR Revo’d it will perform as well as the little Nissan … treat GTi-Rs with caution, they bite!

I'm going for REVO to, just hoping that you will see a difference in performance. Might be tempted to get a free trial 1st.

I think you'll find 230bhp in a 4wd car is not that much, they're average performing cars when compared with cars of today. Okay you can mod them to go stupidly quick but as standard they aren't all that:)

Everyone looks at a 0-60 time of a car and assumes its performance based on that.

Best pal used to have a 400hp GTIR, that was very quick.

Gearbox went, then engine blew! Now sitting on a scrap heap!

I wouldn't say that a car that hits 60 in 5.4 secs, does 144 mph and a standing 1/4 mile in 14 seconds as standard is particularly average! [Figures taken from the official Nissan press release] Even in the world of performance hatchbacks it is better than average let alone out in the ‘average’ real world. Couple that with the fact that few people know what they are, or what they are capable of means it is a bit of a sleeper despite that fact that it looks like a road going rally car. All of that performance in a car which is now over 16 years old is pretty impressive! Given that you can buy them for £1500-£8000 is a bargain (but only if you can afford to run it, which I admit can be very expensive). I can’t see people saying that Delta Integrales and Escort Cossies are average and they were all built for rally homologation after all!

Just my personal opinion, but I think they are still truly special cars (I am biased though!!)

I have witnessed more than a few times GTIR's in the 15sec bracket and only terminalling at low 90's mph at santapod, either those drivers cant drive which to be fair up a 1/4 mile strip isnt hard or the car isnt as quick as people think!

How many drivers can extract the quoted 0-60 time that a 4wd car advertises anyway? Not many as 3-4 sustained attempts and you'll be buying a new clutch.

Modded they do go ballistic but as standard not a lot to write about in my opinion, the breed of new hot hatch today will keep up without a problem all the way from 20-30mph upwards to top speed.

The pulsar in its day was very quick but times have moved on and so has car performance, the average hot hatch now for instance 200-250bhp, back when the pulsar come out? 100bhp?

I have a 52 20 VT - revo'd to stage 2 and i can honestly say nothing has kept up with me yet ( I was well surprised).

A buisnessman the other day in a brand new 911 carera 6 tried to beat me off the mark, i literally p****d all over him.

He gave me the most dissappointed look as he eventually drove past ( Lol ).

Gonna price up stage 3 i think as power is starting to feel slow to me now.

I have had 2 Subaru's now nearlly 300 bhp and none of them feel as fast as my cupra.

IF YOU AINT BEEN REVO'D - WHAT YA WAITING FOR :)

cheers

LOL the 911 must have been feathering the throttle or missed a gear or more than likely bedding the engine in seeing as its a new car. 911 would make mince meat of a leon

the burbs...
A revo'd cupra dropped a 911.... Damn why did I sell the Cupra...Imagine what a revo'd LCR would do... outrun the starship enterprise....go so fast that time will warp and arrive back where it started before it even left ?

this i wasted a porsche quotes makes me laugh

i had a 911 before my lcr and it was a standard 1985 3.2 carrera and maybe a chipped lcr could have stayed with it but you would slowly be falling behind the 0-60 was 5.2 secs and it did around 160 flat out but it was fast i raced all sorts Evo 7, m3's etc and i was never left, and they have progressively got faster so theres no way a hot hatch is going to stay with it.

the guy was probably playing with his phone and didn't realise you were racing
