Hey Chaps! A big hello from me as a new member. Coming over from UK-MKivs.......

I shall be looking into buying a LCR probably end of this year. (Plat grey please!). Just been scouring around for info on what to look for.

So far:

Obvious used car stuff(Service history, owners, etc)
Fading red caliper paint,
Dodgy coil packs?
Creeks and noises

Im sure theres further stuff I should check. I would be looking at a low mileage sub 15K one......

First time help much appreciated.

Creaks and rattles are unfortunatly part an parcel fella, i personally feel the driving experience alone outways all the little niggly rattles etc.

Caliper paint is usually effected by the way its been serviced , ie leaking fluid etc. Easy to spot.

With that sort of mileage you hopefully will have a fair bit of warranty left, for a certain amount of piece of mind.

Welcome to the site btw

Thanks chaps.

No way! Not fussed about the fading paint - just someting to check when looking at a potential purchase. Creeks I could probably live with, as the Mk4 GTI has plenty of those that come and go!

Depends what kinda person you are.

I usually do a bit of research before gettin anything. At the moment theres nothing better then an LCR for around 13-15K which is out the box sports orientated. Sure theres coupes like the Celica or TT which Ive also considered BUT.......every car has issues.....functionally and practically speaking.

What else would you recommend?

You can't really look for dodgy coil packs because they just go. And you'll know if one has gone because the car runs like a tractor. It's a quick fix with SEAT assistance (so long as they have a spare) so don't worry about it.

I've just got a cupra r (210) after selling my Alfa 147 jtd 16v. I had a honda civic type r before the alfa so i do know a little bit about cars.

I tried a celica vvti t sport 190 and i was very dissapointed as i was with the Honda. With these cars you don't get the power untill 5-5 - 6000 revs so you constantly have to thrash them to get them to go fast!!

The celica had very shiny plastic inside and the dials looked as if they had come from a nissan sunny circa 1980!! The 'kick' your supposed to feel from the vvti at 6k was hardly noticble and the engine sounded horrible. When i owned the Honda i was always slightly dissapointed for some reason, didn't seem to live up to it's reputation.

The cupra is the first car i've had that ticks all the boxes. Instant exceleration, beautiful looks, 18" alloys, classy inside (not like the civic!!) 4 doors, massive boot. I could go on all day.

Don't bother looking around, go for a cupra!!!:D

Yes mate. I agree. Although I havnt driven a cupra. Im sure the build will be better inside then the Jap alternatives. I took a t-Sport celica 190 for a test drive -- was seriously considering it. Round town its fine but get revvy when you floor it. Fine for a little fun BUT the noise is a bit annoying to live with -- I felt anyway. Also a long motorway cruise would be quite uncomfortable. Dont get me wrong. I still think they are great cars in terms of looks and handling, but just the noise and build inside put me off. Suppose thats the price you pay for some sports cars!

I think Southgate SEAT have a LCR which i may go test drive soon.

Thanks for the input.

Great if you got kids!!!
5 Doors always good, great selling point to my missis anyway.
Lcr at the moment is a good buy for the money, but what im saying is if your thinking of buying at the end of the year thats a long time for alot of diffrent cars to catch your eye BUY NOW !!

any recommendations of up and coming cars? theres a place doing LCR on delivery miles but late 2005 registerd for 16K........tempting.

It all depends on how many doors you want or need, there is'nt alot of sporty 5 door hatchbacks cars in the market, 3 doors wow take your pick, I could buy something very tasty with 16k, all depends on your needs.
I would be thinking mk 5 r32 second hand for that extra bit of comfort and power, never really lose money on that car either.

Yes R32 very tempting. I think I will have to drive both to decide. Needs arnt too much as no kids yet!!! So ideally a coupe would have been nice. R32's are very cool but I think there gettin a little tempting with thieves........not saying they wont nick anything!

R32's aren't as quick as a Cupra R.... and the power delivery is very strange... doesn't pull as you'd think it would, then there's the fuel bills, and servicing costs for the 6-pot etc....but, in that blue... look very nice indeed.

I thought the mk4 R32 was 240bhp and 0-60 was 6.4 or something, so its pretty much the same aint it? I have driven a R32 but only for a few miles, the fuel bills would be enought to put me well off a v6, 15 mpg easily
