I've got a Turbosmart Recirc/Dump Valve on my LCR. When letting off the throttle gentley, you can hear a chattering noise through the Open Cone (whether the DV is set to recirc or not). When letting off from 1/2 throttle or above you can hear it dump it back into the system (or the atmosphere if you take the plug out of the DV) and no chatter.
Is the chattering under low throttle detrimental to the health of the turbo? Or is the DV doing its job properly?
no idea mate, im going to order a stiffer spring from forge for my 007p.
Im very weary or turbo chatter/stall etc as coming from a jap car background im used to ceramic coated turbo blades which don't take a huge amount of abuse.
Are the turbos on LCRs steel shafted and steel turbines? if so i would hope they are more resilient.
just hope the turbos are built better than the cars lol
I would have thought jap cars would run stronger turbos as thats where you tend to hear chatter - any youtube / fast and furiousy stuff always seems to show supras / imprezas / evos etc with big boost + chatter!
Yeah i had a quick scan on youtube for the HKS valve, but most of them seem to be so loud that they just distort the phone camera mics so you cant hear them anyway haha!
The ones from a little further away just sound to me like normal dump valves just a fair bit louder, didnt manage to find one giving a chatter type sound... I would probably look into it if they sound half decent, although by the time you've put one on and had it mapped to run a BOV, may as well just take the risk of knackering the K04! if it breaks, would be a nice excuse to go big turbo!! haha!
wastegates are only usually audible when they are externally vented such as with a screamer pipe setup. aside from that the tend to be open once full boost is reached to keep it constant.
Screamer pipes are crazy loud, but sound lush.
goes back to the same old myth of "wastegate chatter" as its either open or closed it cant chatter.
most common causes are high boost levels and tight springs in the BOVs.
