Hi i've brought a LCR and i'm picking it up on wendsday and i was wondering if i need to buy a turbo timer for it? and untill i get one how long you normaly have to wait for it to cool?

Also the car is coming fitted with a tracker which i know your not supposed to tell anyone but the insurance companys give 0% discount on it so anyone think it's worth paying £140 to get it turned on?

IMO they're not necessary. If you stay off boost for a couple of miles before parking then the engine should be cool enough to just turn straight off. Otherwise, just let it idle for a couple of mins.

Yep. I don't think there necessary either. Aslong as you wait for your car to warm up to operating temperatures before booting it, and going easy before parking... Then it makes no difference :)

putting the cool down thing into perspective.
boot your car up a long steep hill. dont turn off but get out and pop the bonnet. your turbo will be a pretty orange glow.

so if your ragging it then switch straight off its not good. i tend to be gentle for the last mile or so and give her 45 secs at idle.

warming up is very important. your coolant gage hits 90 within a few minites but oil can take as long as ten mins to reach norm temps so avoid high revs till then.

thanks for the the advice guys.

As for the how easy to wire up i know an auto electrican i could ask not seeing him till the end of the month but i'll see what he says!

might be wrong but im sure there was an issue with immobilising when somome asked before. you could try the search button.

an auto leccy might know better tho.

enjoying the car then?

had a remote start fitted to my golf mk tdi once! They needed a spare key so they coiuld remove the chip and link it to they imboliser system!
i didnt trust it as it overrides the standard immboliser

I understood that the 1.8T has a pump that runs after the eninge was turned off to circulate oil/coolant (?) through the turbo and stop the oil burning...

A search would probably bring all the info up.

I don't advise remote start's on TDI's. Because generally you turn the ignition half way, to warm up the glow plugs. Using the remote start, you avoid that.

im aware of that, this has time seqence espically for tdi that wait around few second (3-6) before starting. It was very useful in the winter!
after work! every one there with they scrapers and they de-icers.
Mines was ready started all fully warmed up and decided. :D

Probably depends how long you plan to keep the car. I've done over 50k in mine and the turbo is probably still spinning when I take the key out! (I'm sure my neibours love that minty brake burning smell too)

I have a warranty to sort the turbo out if I shag it.

I always let it warm up fully though.

As for tracker.... if there's no discount for it would you want to get your car back if it got nicked?

I've always let my engine sit if I've used the turbo a lot just to make sure that the oil can get round the turbo instead of it dropping out.

iirc the pump only throws the coolant around it. but not the oil.

isnt the coolant pump pwered by a belt from the cams or is plain electric motor!
when the water pump fails, people change the cambelt as well as its linked!
