Ive got a LCR with 41k on, its juts been serviced 1.5k ago. However it had to go to the dealer for a checkup (Long story about issues with Seat - lets ignore).
Anyway during the 102 point check up that they do for a used car, the dealer said my rear suspension is leaking and it needs changing.

Ive searched on the forum but found no similar threads -

I am just wondering if the suspension is really likely to be leaking after 40k. Has anyone similar expereinces?

I also find it worrying that it wasnt highlighted in the service. I *suppose* the problem could have occured during the last 1.5 k miles.

I had a leaking rear shock and car only done 25k, replaced under warranty, dealer didn't even want to see the car they took my word for it ordered a new one and rang me when it came in.

You can check this as there will be hydraulic fluid running down the body of the shock.

forgot to mention you may want to do some searching for prices to replace the whole suspension at £225 for presumably a pair of shocks that's a lot towards an whole aftermarket setup.

There have been a couple of threads on this. Oddly worn tyres are another sign.

The shocks are only £35 each, and you don't need any special tools to fit them yourself - about an hour's work.

Ruddemister - dude! Ive heard of coilovers for ever and a day - are they simply just dampers with adjustable ride height - or have I lost the plot.

Whats the benefit ?

BTW- Reading/Berkshire has 3rd world road surfaces shipped in especially for re-surfacing the roads with. ;-)

Well i had them fitted, , only got the SEAT parts - the coil over set up looked a little too much for me to be considering.

Just out of curiosity - when I insepcted the absorbers, all i could see was a light smearing f what looked like oil near where the damper fits into the flanged sheath (oo-er). This is what the dealer said was the issue - have I been ripped off ?

Cheers

The body of the shock should be completely dry. When mine went it was actually dripping onto the floor, so in answer to your question you have not been rippied off.
