Tbh, I've no idea, from what Alpha-bid say, there's a sticker under the bonnet somewhere with CAN-BUS on it if your car is CAN-BUS.

Mine didn't have a sticker so i figured it probably wasn't, so got the £3.99 USB cable on Ebay.

Let's just hope it's the right one.....

It says the "Later" cars are CAN-BUS... .Not sure how late, late is but I will check mine later to see.

Hopefully the £3.99 one will work, I will get one if it does. If not it looks like being a proper one for $65!!

Yes Indeed, I'll let you know, it should be here by early next week hopefully !!!

If it is wrong, I'm not going to spend a further £65, Tbh, it's already cost more than the £30.00 I was quoted to do the job, As i had to buy another screen for my busted laptop @ £30, + this cable @ £12.00; but i figured once i had all the bit's at least i can fiddle when i want too, and not have to keep taking the car else where...

I dunno this modding lark, just gets more and more expensive

I should stick to me bikes, at least thier fast without spending shed loads of money..:headhurt:

even if you got the cable from alpha bid for that you still wouldnt have the software which, you would have to buy from ross-tech. the software license on its own is $99.

I must admit I have heard that you are limited to what you can do with the free version of the software. If you get the full $99 + Ross Tech cable you can do ANYTHING!!

I might just save up and get the proper version...

i have a usb cable from alpha-bid and it is fine with the free version. since the license is just that, a license, then its the same software just with more features enabled. i am probably going to buy a license so i can use auto scan and change some settings.

Dunno which versh you guys have but i got 409-1 here:http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/archives.html

I've downloaded the twin-USB one to my lappy, but it won't do anything without the interface cable being plugged in, so can't see what it'll do or won't do and if i need to get a license to go in and mess with my alarm setting's.

Once cable arrives, Whey Hey...... probly f:censored:k it all up and end up taking to SEAT anyway, knowing my luck

As above, you definitely need the full version to make any changes. Not just to the alarm settings, but any other module too. With the free version you can only access certain modules, read some codes and that's about it. You need the full version to make any changes, to read all modules and scan for all fault codes :)

spoke to the dealers today where i am buying my lcr from concerning getting the alarm to beep when set. they are willing to do it for me , but aparrantly the 'tech' guys say that if this chirp is enabled, it means the indicator flash will be disabled.

is this correct?

not really bothered by the flash, but just wanted to know if it was correct?

This vag-com isn't easy is it !!!!!

Just when my cable turns up from the states, I installed XP over the Y2K & my lap top decides to fall on its sword, waiting for a new hard drive to turn up, and it's all systems go hopefully, if i can get to work......

i have got the stealers to do it for nothing. Part of the deal of me buying the car from them. :D

vag-com

Well after having to practically rebuilt my old laptop it's cost more than just taking the car to somewhere and getting them to change any settings...

But, now having installed XP, over the Win2K, got the cable, replaced the screen which has been broken for 2 years, changed the hard drive cos it died, at least I'venow got vag-com working and talking to my car, today after changing the Bawd rate on Com 3.... Yahhh

And I've dicovered that the interior volumnmetic sensors for the alarm are not enabled, how stupid is this, to have the system but not to have it working at peak effiency, so once the licence gets emailled to me, another £50.00 odd, I'm up and running.

And will be enableing the alarm interior sensors, the alarm "chirps" and a whole raft of other items...

So has the whole thing worth it.... Errrrmm probably
