Let's keep this simple. I've seen a 2007 2.0 Hyundai Coupe S111 at a garage near my work. It is *stunning*. I've located a same-colour Coupe on Pistonheads:

and..

I didn't think I'd ever consider a Hyundai... especially as recently I've been looking at high-performance Japanese turbos.. but the aesthetic appeal of this little coupe is undeniable. The 2.0 16v engine is quite weak and under-powered, but there is a 2.7 V6 that manages 167BHP.. (so again, quite weak and under-powered).. but they're groups 10 and 14, respectively.

Anyone had experience of these? Driven one or know anyone with one? The earlier models don't look quite as nice, the one I've got here is the S111.

Thoughts? I'm still debating whether to move away from the LC to something else and until now, a non-turbo hadn't come to mind.

The new one doesn't look much like it's older brothers.. it looks a tad like a C180 Merc or something.

The S111 on a 2007 plate is about £12,000. Massive depreciation, as you say.

Hyundai have a good name in the reliability stakes, I think you'll miss the power of your turbo though....I suppose you could charge one of these puppies though and get some really good power out of it.

I've seen some turbo-conversions on the 2.0 Coupe SE. 260BHP+ seems a fairly easy to achieve figure - but it comes at a price.. seriously :S

Incidentally, 5 year unlimited warantee on all new Hyundais. And the warantee is transferable. Sorted.

I dont understand why you would want to go backwards with cars?

Whats the reason for you selling the Leon anyway? You been humming and arring since Nov 2006 over the car.

I had the previous model of Hyundai Coupe and it was a nice comfortable car. I had it for 3 years and never had any problems mechanically.
As said the depreciation on them is not good and they are expensive to service compared to the Leon due to the high cost of their parts.

I would be tempted by the new RWD version.

Bored of it, jon. And then I almost typed: "Need something faster....". Hah. Which the Hyundai Coupe certainly isn't.

Bleh. I can honestly say I'd be happy with the Coupe S111 if it were available in a forced-induction engine.

I'm actually thinking about an LCR. Sometimes I can be driving my LC and be totally pleased with me. Performance, economy, looks, comfort.. and then I just want to hang onto it and tune the weedy 180BHP to something respectable.

God know's.

one of staff has the v6 model hyundai coupe at work,it sounds nice and looks nice but even the driver admits its a fuel gusler and for size of engine is agonisingly lacking in performance......he reckons on a steady run he averages about 20 to 25 mpg

I've done a little Googling and yeah, even the enthusiasts club grumble about the ridiculously crap performance, considering the 2.7 V6. Madness.

They've got numerous threads going on about true performance variants of these Coupes. Doesn't look likely. Hyundai seem to want to hang onto their low insurance group.

Bleh. Awesome looks - bad performance/economy.

a couple of weeks ago i was seriously considering a focus st, they go for silly money brand new (£15-16k) and although they can be considered a little chav i still think they look quite smart, go like stink, sound awesome and are equally as tuneable as any other hot hatch. i'd go for an st over the hyundai im afraid.

Surely if your going to turbo a 167 BHP N/A engine you would have a large amount of stuff needing changed. Clutch, brakes to mention a few.
If your so after a LCR for £1,300 you could get your car to look like a LCR outside.
Spend £1,000 on the brembo brakes and £700 on new alloy wheels.

Focus ST and the Hyundai Coupe are aimed at different markets.

The Focus ST is not chav at all. I don't even see the connection! I know plenty of chavs, owing to living in Clacton - going to school here and enjoying the local car/pub/club scene. I know chavs in Escorts, Corsas, Fiestas and Saxos. I do not, however, know anyone with a Focus ST.

They're the new alternative to the RS and Cosworth machines of Ford's hay-day. The Saph. Coss earned a bad rep as wideboy chariots and salesman's cars. (Rightly so.. they're angry cars!!). But I do not see the Focus ST going the same route.

2.5Turbo 5 pot Volvo T5 lump. Awesome. Get one. :)

Exhaust manifold, intercooler, piping, airbox relocation, ECU replacement ;)

Like I said... expensive. A few have done it. £6,000 seems to be the average price for a 260+BHP Coupe SE.

i do realise the two cars are aimed at different markets however, your recent posts simply suggest you are bored and want something a bit more fun.

i figured the st is faster, newer, sounds better, handles better and can be tuned to greater performance than your current car so may fit the bill ;)

Heh. The guy opposite my house has an Electric Orange Focus ST1. It's nice, don't get me wrong.. he has no plans for remaps or tuning of any sort. Just as well - he whines about traction a lot. 222BHP on a FWD is always a bit silly, as many LCR owners will state, when compared to AWD/RWD machines - so on that note.. I'd rather an Audi S3 to the Focus ST. Same kind of money.

I don't mean new S3. I mean 225BHP 4x4 S3 ;)

God I wish. I remember a guy on here spec'd a new S3 to £31,000~
