I fear the worst :(

On the way home tonight my car has hesitated three times (5 mins apart from each other) on light constant throttle, slightly uphill.

On two of the hesitations I felt the power decrease for about half a second (maybe not even that long) - on the third hesitation it came and went like a really quick pulsing sensation for about 5 seconds then went away again.

Engine was nice and warm when it did it, i'd been driving for 10mins before it hesitated for the first time...

After the 2nd hesitation I booted it to see what was what, it gave a moderate puff of smoke (which it sometimes does and sometimes doesnt) and because I was driving alongside a wall the noise from the engine was bouncing back, something sounded awful!! Really hard to describe - kinda like high pitch noise with a rough sound to it.

This is where I cry now, turbo failing?:cry:

No VAG-COM errors, the only error its had since I've had it was a glow plug error which SEAT said one of the glow plugs must of just out of tolerance so threw up a error code/light.

SEAT didn't replace the glow plugs as they found no evidence that it was failing, and once they cleared the error it never came back...that was about 4/5 months ago now.

Help :(

Mine does this once in a while. Generally if I've been cruising on light throttle, then try and accelereate gently arouns ~2000rpm, I get a bit of hesitation.

My guess is a sticky EGR valve, that doesn't close fast enough and some of the increasing boost leaks out through it...

If your turbo is about to fail what`s the problem? I am sure Turbo Dynamics will be able to sort you out with a new stage 2 turbo...:funk:

Cos im skint at mo. Crimbo coming up and no one is certain their jobs at work are secure. We have had one redundancy already...

Car has only done 32k - can a turbo die this quick?

the thing that stumps me is that 'pusling' sensatation......a turbo can't pulse like that can it?

Just wish it would throw up a CEL so I can get on and look at fixing it. Car has 27 more days under warranty, if something is going to die I want it to die NOW!

Well take the car out every day and thrash the hell out of it then or better still bring it down to me and let me trash the hell out of it.:drive2:

and thrash the hell out of it

Might not be a bad idea 'Italian tune up' Chris. Sticky vanes? Its not going to do any harm when the cars nicely warmed up.

What about an ECU reset - when was the last time this was done?

I know a bit clutching at straws but the're free potential fixes. Also if there was an imenant problem the thrash might exentuate the symptons. Warranty?

Just some thoughts.

Update**

Reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative for 30mins. Took the car for a spin (once my electric wing mirrors decieded to wake up after ECU reset).

Car certainly feels quicker and instantly noticed a drop in smoke when planting the foot. The hesitation is still there, seems to be getting slightly worse over time so shall wait for the problem to be more constant.

I shall try the N75 VAG-COM test whilst watching the actuator with a mirror to see if its all moving nicely.

Another weird thing i've noticed is a high pitch whistle when i'm coasting using revs to slow me down, doesnt sound like a boost whistle - would a split in any of the VAC pipes create a slight whistle?

AIR MASS METER FAILING?
Glynn

Good question, I nearly bought myself a new MAF & green top temp sender the other day, all the logs seem ok. But I've never caught it hesatating whilst I've been logging, so won't show up until its more constant.
