Looking to buy a Cupra R soon.. What to look for?

Go for it, you won't be disappiointed.
Best car I've ever owned and can't bring myself to change to anything else at the moment.
I have had mine since buying new in 2005.
It does everything - 260bhp (Revo stage 2), 40+ mpg (on a long, run driven sensibly. A full tank has seen over 450 miles to the south of France), looks great, drives even better, is practical (5 doors and large boot).

I do lots of short journeys in my LCR. Never experienced any problems.

Regular servicing (I do a service once a year) and warming up and cooling the car down properly and it's running fine.

Uv gone through 8 tyres, a clutch and flywheel, 4 oil chnges etc.. All in 4 months? You must thrash f*ck out of it! You said change oil every 3-4 months not weeks lol
I have a mate thats built his own ibiza cupra r running at 350bhp he will help me with anything.

well technically 4, just put a new set on. so 2 changes. oil wise, I changed it when I got it, changed it when i did the rods, changed it about 100 miles after the rods, changed it on friday before combe.

clutch and flywheel, these cars are getting old now, prepare for a clutch change, or find one with it done recently.

My advice with tyres. avoid continental. They're too soft for the weight of car. Hence why mine has eaten them.

Im not saying dont get one, but, I'm just trying to help enlighten you to the potential costs.

I do a fair few miles in mine, and its mixed roads. But also having over 300lb-ft of torque, means its very hard on the clutch.

Under normal circumstances 2 oil changes a year will be just fine mate.

Running costs really aren't as bad as people are making out. If you're on minimum wage then maybe it's not the car for you, but it's much cheaper to run than a lot of cars out there.

It is a performance car though, so has to be properly maintained to avoid big bills. Same as any car really.

Just be sensible and you'll be fine. Of course it's ok to just nip to the shops. Just don't only do short journeys. Once a week take it somewhere quiet and drive it like you stole it.

I've had mine just before Christmas When i bought it the front tyres where getting low and they are still getting low (not on the indicators yet). Had it serviced and MOTed. I will get it serviced and MOTed next year. I think my Turbo seals are going, I top up the oil slightly every month (looking into this at the moment).

Thats that. Oh i also need to fix the anoying leek on footwel!

Im trying to give a scenario, So he isn't going in kidding himself, as alot of people do with they're first performance car.

One a year with top grade fully synth has done me no hard, although I only do 5-7000 miles a year

Depends on your 5-7000 miles, is that 2-4 miles a day or 30 miles in 1 journey. The latter is better than the former. as then oil gets up to temperature and does what it should. if its the former, oil will condensate to the top end, blocking oil lubrication and knackering the valves guides/lifters/rockers etc. I've got a picture i think of a 1.2 clio that did less than 2 miles daily, top end looked like it had water put in instead of oil, the whole top end was emulsified and it needed a new cam/valve guides etc.

Dnt forget mate yours is a stage 2 tuned model! Mine would be staying pretty much standard.

Services on evos are stupidly high lol.

Ill read up as much as poss i was almost certain on getting a golf gti and i knew allsortd about them but now i think im getting an lcr ill read up as much as poss on here

When i drive the R to work i do 10 miles each way. It's warmed up in no time. I prolly do about 10k a year and i do 1 service a year. Service costs £120 Unless its a biggie

Ive found them utter shite compared to michelins. Grip well, little sketchy when getting low and wet, and couldnt wear any faster if i tried.

i think a lot of the costs in this thread are a beyond crazy. ive owned mine for 2 years now, i can count on 1 hand how many hundreds ive needed to spend to maintain the car to a decent level. (still got a couple of free fingers too!)

i spent a hell of a lot more on my old 106!

they only costs a first time buyer would really be interested in are tax/insurance and obviously mpg/fuel.

I have conti3s and they are fantastic. Compliment the V3s perfectly. Very grippy indeed.
