I was going back to work today, just got out of my street, got into second and put my foot down. All of a sudden i heard a popping sound that came from the engine bay (or thats where i think it came from). I looked in my rear mirror and saw hudge clouds of black smoke. The car then lost performance and became very loud. I never had much of a chance to look at it, as i had to get to work. Popped the bonnet and had a quick look around, couldn't see anything. Got home at and was pitch black.
Anyone had this before. Or could anyone think what it might be?
One of the lads at work thinks the turbo pipe might of popped off, not too sure though.
Any help would be great, as i'm at work again tomorrow 6am-6pm.
Cheers

Does sound like a boost pipe has popped off. Mine was loose by the IC and apparently I was a mobile smog cloud while I was driving around.

That certainly sounds like what has happened, I believe it sounds/looks quite dramatic when it happens - you could end up needing a new pipe as this will probably happen again and again as the bits that grip have degraded or something - I'm sure that others will confirm this - I'm not a TDI person! Personaly I do know someone who had just paid to get his belts etc changed and was gutted when this happened as he thought that the engine had expired - but it just ended up being the pipe!

Id put money on it being boost pipe popped off. I'd imagine somewere between intercooler outlet and EGR. Chances are your going to need a new pipe as it will have worn the lugs away.
Shouldnt be too expensive though. Think i only paid around £20 for pipe, clips and o-rings.

I disagree with Tom. I reckon its the lower boost pipe, under the car... haha! Deffo a boost pipe, if its in limp mode all good, if not I wouldnt drive it as it could be getting crap in it!

Nice lol. Enjoy bud. Biza should be back on the road in no time. Just a case of getting parts. Once you have them its a five minute job to fix.

I'd say boost pipe off too.
My last mapped Golf blew the pipe clean off, couldn't even hit 20mpg, sounded like a tractor, had barely NO performance and kicked out so much smoke that a mate coming down the same road 5mins later said it was foggy.... lol

Generally happens on a mapped car, mine was the pipe on the o/s of the FMIC connector.

Jubilee clipped it in place again and the car went like an absolute rocket so it looked like it had been leaking for a while. I've duct taped the joint on the Anni as the rest are jubilee clipped already apart from that one. Better to prevent than fix I say.
