But there is still that law about displaying your tax.

That is the law. You MIGHT get pulled for not displaying, but the police should check the system and find you have tax, insurance etc :) Seen all the forlorn posts about your car on the forum Mat. Good to hear you've got it sorted! :D

Well she survived the trip down to Asda. Man it felt good driving a car with some power again. That mk4 1.2 just tottles along.

Shame there seems to be no heat in the cabin. Lots of damp but that might have been me getting water inside when cleaning the car today. So that's another job needing doing. Heat !! Luckily right time of year now not to worry.

She's playing up again. Got to work this morning noticing the power steering was getting lumpy, hard to turn the wheel and started shaking at certain times too.

Checked fluids and sits just under the maximum. Opened the reservoir cap, turned wheels all the way on/off side. Still feels lumpy.

Think it might be the belt again, it feels somewhat slightly loose on the pulleys, could this be it, how much torque is required to make sure it is right ???

Well I lost quite a bit when the jewel clip broke and I knocked the pipe off. I used up about half of a 500ml bottle. That took me to right at the max.

All the bolts were tightened no idea to what torque though mate, im not that clever. I'll double check the rest when I get home but the main one is the teethy bolt and the belt

idd deffo check them with a torque to make sure not to loose or to tight :p

don't have that tool

might worth seeing if anyone near you has one if it is needed as if you can imagion that spins as much everytime the engine does you wouldnt want it snapping off or not moving
and snapping the belt and other cogs

Basically... you need a torque wrench, or you might as well not bother doing those jobs listed above yourself... And might end up spending even more due to your lack of care and mistakes.

Well I tightened it up more, it is much better but still not ideal. Will take it to garage on payday. The crank is making a ticking noise constantly on/off/on/off so that will need to be checked out, still no heating in the car, the fans come on after every trip for about 45 seconds after switch off, the door handle is still fubar.

Might as well get a job lot done at the garage. bored of trying to fix it myself with no tools

hahahaha I have to laugh now, seriously. This car will be getting burned at this rate.

Now both doors won't open. The handles just stop opening the door. From the inside it opens fine, door locks fine. Just the handles don't open. Something so simple most probably but more freakin effort required and no time to deal with it.

I hate you car, I no longer even remotely love you !!!!

regarding the power steering, if you have knocked a pipe off and you have had to fill it back up, you may have an air lock in it!! the best thing to do is get the front end off the ground so you can turn the wheel lock to lock, start the engine, take the resovoir cap off and turn the steering from lock to lock afew times to get rid of any air locks then top it up and fingers crossed it should be ok
the belt should have about half inch play in it when it is tight too!!
