So, in reading all of this does anyone recommend going from a 150hp 1.4 fr to the new 1.5 fr? Or should I hang on to it, or change marques.

Was at Seat on Monday looking at a trade for an Audi A3, the sales rep that sold me the Leon was asking if i liked it. Resounding nope and got her to confirm there is a common problem with the 1.5TSI which was a shock they usually deny all common faults until they are blue in the face.

Also said the update for the 1.5 TSI was made available since February however i had phoned them countless times prior to this but they seemed to not have called me to update me. Shocking car / shocking service

Seriously?

I'd also be interested to know if the latest versions of the 1.5TSi have been sorted. Given that VAG seem to be relying on this engine in their mid range cars, I'd like to think they've fixed it.

Hi Dan. Interesting to read that you've had your injectors done to no avail. Has the garage suggested any other repair is required?

Not been back yet, garage seem very reluctant to take it much further now, they cant fault the car when it goes in, the last couple of days with the hot weather the car barely put a step wrong, however the temperature has dropped since and the hesitation has returned, i dont know what to do as im in big negative equity and seat dont seem to wanna get involved.

Nice of my local Seat dealership to tell me there’s been a new update from February, seeing the one I had in December hasn’t worked....
Cars still chugging down the road in morning, and just about anytime it damn well fancies...

Did you get anywhere with your A3 enquiry’s ? Did they offer any incentives that would be worth considering?
I have to wait till November before voluntary termination can be done, or buy myself out and we buy any car it.....
Unless I can persuade VWFS and switch to a new car .

Well i just had a phonecall there and they want £1300 to move from the lease on the Leon (shortfall) to the A3. So looks like might end up staying with my Kangaroo partner for a little longer.
I do have the money but in this climate i’m tempted to keep it in the bank at this moment in time.

it’s a shame as the Audi was so nice to drive but looks like will be staying with this jalopy for a little longer.

PCH i am about 18 months in on a 36 month rental. They have given me preferential termination due to a change in circumstance but with a £1300 payment required i will probably just stick with it for the time being.

I was going to say, I’m doing a preferential early termination for this dreaded engine . Dealer said to me that it’s very rare the customer has to pay much towards the change. Shame it’s not worked out for you.

I think they are just chancing their arm to be honest, will tell them no tomorrow and will just wait for them to squirm and probably they will end up paying me money. It’s not as easy to negotiate over a phone. Miles easier in person. I said i would let them know tomorrow might let them wait a couple of days and just flat out say no and see what they come up with. Will probably be “i will just ask my boss”

Just some food for thought mate, VWFS want £11,500 for my car (2018 FR 1.4 150 25,000 miles). Dealer agreed to £11,200 but I’ve made a further two payments since so waiting to for a revised figure.

There’s 2 grand in every car so that will go on their forecourt at around £13,200

I collected my new FR Black Edition with the 1.5 EVO 150 Manual engine on Friday. I’ll keep an eye on the issues described above and update you.

So far so good, but it hasn’t been cold and I’ve been driving like my Gran. How long are you supposed to let engines ‘bed in’/settle, or is that a old wives tail?

Wouldn’t worry about breaking in the engine itself as modern engines are made to such incredibly tight tolerances it’s not as much a big deal as it once was - however I still wouldn’t totally thrash it for a few hundred miles out of consideration for the next owner!

Agree, it’s not necessary to ‘baby’ the engine. Just drive ‘normally’, but during the first few hundred miles I’d try to ensure the car’s not driven at a constant speed in the same gear for prolonged periods. Change gear and vary the engine speed / revs frequently.

I’d also bed the brakes in during the first couple of hundred miles and avoid excessively harsh braking - unless it’s necessary because of an accident / emergency avoidance situation. Also, bear in mind that new tyres may have some of the release agents (used to release tyres from the tyre molds when they’re manufactured) on the tyre treads during the first few miles, which could affect grip levels until those release agents have been ‘scrubbed’ off through driving.

I think its time to appoint a solicitor and take VWFS to court over this. Nothing SEAT tried has fixed the kangaroo and they wont even accept there is still an issue. The car is even worse with the air conditioning on so its been a pain driving in this hot weather.

Anyone else logged a report with the DVSA regarding the fault? Stalling; lack of power when accelerating etc is obviously a safety related issue at junctions.

Hi it’s not VWFS problem so trying to take them to court over a matter that doesn’t concern them is a waste of money and time. The problem is between you and your service department not you and VWFS. I would suggest speaking to the head of business stating the problems you’ve had with your car and can almost guarantee that you will have more willing techs who are potentially pressured into finding the solution. Trust me. Any complain taken up with the head of business regarding unhappy customers is taken very seriously and acted on promptly.

I think that any product found to be defective IS partly the concern of the agent supplying the finance, remember who is currently the owner of this car, not the buyer, but VWFS.
