No every car without a manual choke has this from cold, they idle higher until engine it upto higher temps. Generally first 10-30 seconds.
But if I pull away when it’s idling higher it kangaroos. Wait 30secs and it’s fine

Thats because the engine is cold. The kangarooing is more prevelant on a cold engine. Not so much of an issue on a warm engine but it is still there to an extent. The fact the revs are higher when cold is irrelevant there is nothing wrong with the cold start procedure of your car. The issue is the 1.5TSI as a whole

I used to have a 1983 mk3 escort with an automatic choke on Webber carb’s that behaved better than my 68 plate 1.5 130 when cold... after 40 years of technological advances by Europe’s biggest engine manufacturer you’d think they’d have it sorted...?:banghead:

I have found that waiting till the revs drop back to the normal 800-1000 rpm which takes about 30 seconds in mine does make a bit of difference, but it not enough to make it a game changer... but I would definitely recommend that you only drive in normal/comfort mode when cold ... sport only makes the kangaroo worse. Eco isn’t worth using.

I completely agree with Vag8. The problem on the 1.5 130 has not been fixed at all. The software updates have not worked. The injector replacements have not worked either. We are just being left in limbo and being treated like its our fault from SEAT.

Has anyone logged on to ERWIN lately to see if anything new is there?

Had one of those strange and happy experiences in my 1.5 130 this morning, after landing back in the uk after a week away got into the car just after midnight. Started first time as a 18mth old car should, reversed out of the bay and drove all the way out of the winding and narrow car park, negotiating speed humps, tight corners, stopped at the barrier, pulled out of a junction, 2 red lights and 2 roundabouts later I’m beginning to think ? hang on... no kangaroos, no flutter, no hesitation.... could this be the Sainsbury’s premium 97 octane fuel that I put in considering that I don’t normally use Sainsbury’s fuel... drove the 90 miles home without missing a beat achievement me thinks and 54.6 mpg to boot, happy days ?
Woke up this morning went out about 10.30 pull off the drive into our street and normal service resumes.... bouncing down the road to the junction, out the junction and continued being a fluttering/kangarooing little :poop: for the next 10 minutes....

I honestly can’t work this engine out, how comes I can leave it for a week and it’s great, but 8 hours and it’s crap again :banghead2

We are in exactly the same boat with this engine :poop:. I've had days when it's performed perfectly fine with no bouncing, and then there are days when the kangaroo is worse than ever before.

I really want to get an independent expert inspection of the vehicle but worry that it will just be my luck they test drive the vehicle on a 'kangaroo free' day, and it will have all been for nothing. ?

The dealer blamed me last year when I first alerted them to the kangaroo that I had a poor choice in fuel. Even though I have always stuck to Esso, BP and Shell, and never used supermarket fuel. They insisted that the only fuel I should be using was BP premium! ?

Makes me laugh - any excuse to deny there's a problem. Our 1.4 TSi has only ever been run on whatever is cheapest in the area and is one of the smoothest 4 cylinder engine cars I've ever driven, irrespective of whether it's using BP, Asda, Shell or Co-Op fuel.

Kangaroo has ended for me.

ECU update was schedulled for 10th August. However the car goes tomorrow. Chopped it in for an A3 2.0l tdi s-tronic.

Good riddance. Will be sure to avoid the 1.5 TSI lemon in the future.

cannot agree more my previous Leon was a 1.4 150 eco act and was a far superior engine in every respect, except for the first 1000 miles where I used shell, i only ran it on whatever Petrol station was passing....regardless of brand

did the same with my 1.5 130 and it made no difference

I ran my 1.5 130 for 14k miles on premium fuel. Didn’t help a bit

Far play to you Big Jase...

I have every respect for you chopping the car out as I know you have had the same issues as me.

Did you trade for a new or used? And did you get a decent trade in price?

I’m looking for my replacement, but diesel can’t be an option for us and the Mrs uses it more than me and her job is mostly short 2-3 mile journeys and I’djust be setting myself up for dpf issues, shame as I prefer the grunt of a TDi

Enlighten me what were they gonna do to your Ecu as my dealership hasn’t mentioned that one !

I traded for a used Audi, Coronavirus has done me a favour as i got a 0% finance deal on it which saves thousands in the long run.

I did take a bit of a hit on the Leon, it was on PCH so i had to put money into it to get out of it early. Only 3 figues though so not the end of the world, i figured that as the deal was 0% the money i had to stump up would of went to interest if it wasn’t 0%, was a cost worth accepting i feel.

I needed an auto as my clutch knee has had it (operation in 2019 on it)

My FR is a 2018 on a 68 plate with 14k miles with the optional 18’s other than that it has no extra’s. 130 1.5 tsi manual. They gave me 12k as a trade.

Oh and the ECU update they were going to do is the “fix” they have for it. No idea if it would of worked or not. Contact SEAT they will advise if you can get the update. If you have the DACA code engine you should qualify.

Oh yeah I definitely have a DACA

Mines also an FR is a 2018 on a 68 plate Built October 2018, has 12k miles also with the optional 18’s and was also in mystery blue and other than that it has no extra’s. 130 1.5 tsi manual.
So no doubt it’s got pretty much the same batch Code for parts engine, injectors, Ecu, wiring loom etc... so no wonder we had the same issues....

I will get onto the dealership tomorrow regarding the ECU update and see what they say... one final go...

That’s if I don’t bomb it off something else before then, well done on Audi deal, but as I said diesel isn’t an option for me and Audi Petrol engines is basically the 1.0 three pot, good engine but clutch issues.
1.5 150 - won’t be going for that as I have no confidence in it , once bitten...:(

So that pretty much rules out everything in the Vag group ...but I have been interested in the polo gti ?2.0 200 ps dsg, engine great but a few dsg issues (6 speed) maltronic failures and mooing breaks and plastic door cards are putting me off ?.

may be off to another brand outside the VAG group after many faithful years.

I had a cracked instrument cluster (not my fault - cracked in the sun) but obviously that affects the trade in. Seat said it was not a warranty issue, which it blatantly was. I would say with your miles and good condition i would say yours would be worth 13k. Thats a guesstimate, extra 1k for 2k less miles and no cracked dash cluster.

An end has come.....

So after nearly 23 months my kangaroo nightmare is over .....

it’s gone - traded out.;)

i wouldn’t say the Leon have been all bad but I just couldn’t live with paying that money every month for something that left me exacerbated at times and essentially disappointed so it is gone.
I would say that if Seat and my local dealership had been more forthcoming with support I would have stuck it out but alas no help in sight... their loss as I took my trade elsewhere this time and bought a VW without a 1.5 tsi engine.

Good luck to the rest of you, I’ll stick around on the forum for a while.
Cheers. :wave::wave:

Great news.

i’m loving my new car, sooo much nicer to drive and with a real engine. Nice thump of torque and no kangaroo in sight. However i am killing Polar bears though as it is diesel and diesel is the fuel of the devil.

i must say i have not missed my Leon one single bit.

Yeap know what you mean, I have stuck with petrol as its more suited to our habits, also stuck with manual despite trying the DSG, but that’s a personal preference.

I have gone for a used Golf Gti
350Nm of torque so a massive improvement over the Leon in terms of performance!!

Nice!!
At least you will be able to overtake without dropping into 1st gear and planning 3 weeks ahead
