How do you think the Cupra R would have compared between the two (Type R + GTI). Would there be much difference?

R would be on a par with the golf and type R. Theres nothing in a std R Vs type R just so long as the type R driver knows how to use it properly. The Golf may lack a few bhp but hardly any turbo lag easily makes up for it.

Well, wholly depends on the driver like, but id say the R would give the Civic troubles - but would struggle to keep near the GTI on the really tough twisty stuff, the new chassis is just so so sooooooo much better.

I've had a Type R and a LCR and I have to say the Type R inspires much more confidence on the rough stuff but it's a nightmare to keep on the boil. Can't speak for the GTI cos I've never driven one.

I think it goes back to what i said in my first point Paul, although the R is a much better car than my Cupra, it still ultimately suffers the same downfalls, a poor chassis and poorly setup suspension which hurt it on anything but billiard table like roads.

The Type R handles superbly, but on a twisty road is very difficult to keep above 6000rpm all the time.... the Leons suffer from poor suspension on the technical stuff, while the GTI with near zero lag and a fantastic chassis and balance can make mincemeat out of higher powered cars because it can carry so much speed through corners and change direction in the blink of an eye.
