Update

Bad times for the GTi, the engine is hesitating and misfiring quite badly, the paint below the rear window has started to rust, fuel economy has shot down, theres a bad earth somewhere and one of the 6x9's has blown.

Worst part I can't arsed with working on it at the moment.

I'm trying to get a cheap run around sorted ASAP so I can lock it away and come back to it at some point in the future.

Guess its got to that point where other things in life are taking over from my love of cars :(

Good weekend for the car. Gave her to the Polish lads (they are super thorough) down at the local car wash along with some wedge, came back cleaned and waxed :)

Misfire is all sorted, it was a couple of badly connected leads allowing moisture to get in. Now doing 38-40mpg

Rust has been treated with Karust so hopefully it won't develop any further.

Speaker severed a connection between the terminals and the cone, now repaired. Keeping the base down may also help with this.

All in all change from a £20 note and 15 minutes of my time.

Holy Moley dude! Well I'll tell you what I used anyway, and how I went about it. I'd personally get myself some decent degreasers first of all. Autosmart G101 (get some spray bottles too, dilute it 1:2, 1:6 or 1:10 for lighter stuff. You'll even have to use it neat at times! Rubber gloves! Dries up your hands!), GUNK degreaser (which stinks!), or Chemguys bare bones?

You'll then need an array of different brushes, moderately stiff, not too stiff, just something to agitate the waxoyl / dirt, a little stiffer than a toothbrush though. Take care on the paintwork inside the bay! :) For the overall rubbish / debris and grime, I started off with a pressure washers, around the legs and bulkhead. I'd stay away from the distributor and electronics personally though (as I've found out a few times in the past! :))

Work systematically, (don't underestimate the amount of time it takes with some sections, as it can take bl**dy ages!) section at a time, from top to further down. Lower parts being the lower parts of the legs / following into the front arches and the cylinder head etc.

Finally, before starting a section, remove the water bottles, battery if you want, airbox / headlight cowling, and cover anything more vulnerable with clingflim. Then - GET SCRUBBING! Let me know how you get on! (There's a LOT of waxoyl around these bays lol!) Good luck :)

There was meant to be, however fate was not on my side. She was meant to be retiring today.

I told a guy that I'd have his toledo tdi off of him last night and would pick it up this morning, however while i was driving to Hull to pick it up this morning he sold it to someone else first! Looks like first refusals and verbal agreements are worth f**k all these days. Got out ready to punch him in all honesty but thought better of it.

I didn't try to get rid of her, I want to retire her.

Meaning lock her away in my garage and get to work on getting her up to scratch. Want to get her in a suitable condition for Inters this year but so much needs doing I can't get it done while she's on the road.

I'm compiling a list which I'll pop up when its done, its going to be over a few years probably until everythings as I want.

Aaah! I understand now! I'm glad, but gutted about the Toledo dude! Something's bound to turn up! :) Let's be Alpine White buddies at Inters?
