Ok As you can see for sig my ickle mini is up for sale, looking to release the cash out of it, but thats a seperate issue. Have around £4k ish to spend on a new car, been looking at alll sorts, pug 206 GTI's, Punto HGT's again, Leon cupra's and older 1.8t golfs. But the only car i can think of at that price that comes up trumps is the mk3 cupra ibiza. Nice 1.8T and a few luxuries and a good looking car.

But i have never driven one, what are they like compared to the mk4 fr a1.8T or cupra 1.8t, do they still feel quick, do they handle the same, and are they as solid, really looking for imput from mk4 owners who used to own a mk3 cupra. cheers

i much prefer the lookof the mk3 cupra !"as standard"!

if i had 4k id buy a cheap mk2 golf and engine convertion or supercharger :) and decked OFF COURSE !

Havent had experience of owning these little gems, but ive been in a 51 plate Jabbared MK3 and Gaz's Revo 2 MK4.20vt All i can say is wow they are well quick, but they also drink fuel. Clearly this isnt an issue for you Ant coming from the minbin.

Hell, our Mk3 will be going for less than that.... (bang on your budget)

I've driven lots of Mk4's of all engine types

The Mk3 is less refined, but more fun - but the chassis is a bit better std on the Mk4

If we had the time we'd keep the Mk3 as I've been driving it this week & it's ace fun (bye bye cossie this morning) but 3 cars for 2 people doesn't make sense

I used to have a mk3 before the 20vt fr I have now

I thought the build quality was about the same, except for the interior door handles (a new pair every 10k miles but only a tenner a pair)

as good as the mk4 and better handling (not as crashy)

why is the mini for sale ???

mk3 tdi sport 110 is a good one if you can find one, avoid the 1.6 petrol like the plague

but you seem to be in cupra 20vt money anyway

mk3 is a good solid proven car all from the mk 2
whilst the mk 4 is plasticy and a poor drive compared to the mk3

oh yeah watch out for climate faults, blowing cold all the time or hot all the time

and the head units are not any good and can't be upraded unless you are good with fibreglass or want it in the glovebox

Guy in work had a mk3 20vt just before I bought my mk3 TDI. I did a few miles in it and it inspired me to get my mk3. Proper old school hot hatch feel to it, but still modern in design, with all the toys you get in newer cars.
I then owned my mk4 briefly a year and a bit later and would say it has a similar feel overall but obviously feels like a more up to date package.
I can't say I prefer either (which isn't much help!) as they are both pretty good base cars. Visibility is much better in the mk3 though!

Mrk 3 are ok if you want to drive an old car
Mrk 4 Are just as good not much in it really just down to the age of the car and the Mrk 4's drive is a lot better and more refined than that of the Mrk 3

I think my mates mk 3 feels a bit more solidly built than my mk4 cupra, less rattles in his near 60k miler than mine has havin done 24k, WTF!!!

my mk3 doesnt rattle hardly, had coilovers on it for year and half now! like dozza says, his mk4 has a few rattles, seems like the interior better built in mk3
