Mk3 exhaust on a Mk2?

Would I be right in thinking if the standard Mk3 Cupra system fits a Mk2 16v, will any after market mk3 systems also fit the mk2? The systems available for the mk2 don’t have a wide range of tail pipes, not wanting to go the custom route, I quite fancied the 4" single exit scorpion system for the mk3.

Any ideas?

saves me asking this. need a rear section for mine as cat back/centre bit is new but all i could find is a magnex 6x4 oval which has a hugh box - most of which u can c - not good in my opinion.

I want to get one that can come through a cut out in the bumper similar to the 20v, all the 16v systems seem to come out under the bumper,

I think you can get a

Remus twin
Magnex oval (wouldn't touch with a barge pole after my old pug 205 GTi exhaust)
Scorpion le mans twin.
Ashely do a twin as well.

Nowhere seems to do a single round pipe for the 16v, unless anyone knows of one?

Mk3 20VT will go straight on. See recent posts about this by ryand who has just put one on his 8v. It sits nicely below the bumper, no need for cutting.

No reason why it shouldn't, it's the same underneath.

Sorry, I realised I hadn't answered your question as soon as I posted my last reply. I'd imagine that if a standard mk3 one will go on there must be no reason why a performance one wouldn't. A large tailpipe may need some cutting of the rear bumper though. The centre pipe/back box joins are in a different position on the mk2 and mk3 systems so you would have to make sure you get a cat back system and not just a back box.

Cheers Steve, sounds like it might be worth a go, I would have to find out the bore sizes first, and I would get a cat back system if I did it.

Two weeks ago, on the monday I think, I went down to Swanage, went through Walisdown and down past tower park on the way out to Wareham. Came back on tuesday but through Corfe Mullen and down the Wimborne bypass. So you might have spotted me!

As steve has just said above, they meet in a differnt place on the Mk3 so just a back box wouldnt fit the Mk2

I had a standard mk3 cupra exhaust on my mk2 and it DEFFO needed the bumper cutting! I have photos if anyone needs them, but apart from the rear bumper needing a slight trim, it fitted spot on with no mods

OK, I thought I'd dig up this old thread. Basically I've finally managed to source a mk3 exhaust for my mk2 and I'm getting it fitted tomorrow morning as the old one has rusted in place so I can't take it off myself. My question is, does the bumper need trimming or not?? From the posts above someone says it does and someone else it doesn't. I was planning on taking off the lower part of the bumper and then only fitting it/trimming it once the exhaust is fitted. But then I found out that the lower apron is part of the whole bumper. Reason I'm asking is because I don't want a mechanic trimming my bumper at a £40/hour rate when I can do that myself for free. Any help or photos would be more then appreciated

std mk3 system? I think it doe triming, however it will need triming while its being fitted otherwise the hole you make for it will be more than likely not in the rightplace

Damn. Hmmmm. How much would you say you had to trim it? I trimmed off about 15mm of the lower apron, as I wasn't sure if it will need doing or not. Can it be fitted tho with only 15mm trimmed off ??

Id trim it anyway for a neat snug fit on your motor. Make sur you polish those tips up, Should set your car off a treat!

Mine has been cut a fraction and you can't really tell that it has been cut. The cut is a perfect shape to the tailpipe.
