No, I really am threatening to sell mine!
VW group had a fantastic car in the Mk2 Golf Gti
18 years on, the similarly sized Polo/
Ibiza/Fabia chassis design is both more unconfortable and less poised in handling - some lessons could be relearned here!
Combined with excessive scrimping on electrics to save cost & weight, minimal core wiring pulled excessively tight throughout the car with resulting irritating electrical faults, it's made me suspicious of what other modern VAG group cars will be like.
PD engines are great just as the fuel injected petrol ones were back in the seventies/eighties. Had the selectors snap in my early six speed gearbox though just to discover that later cars have strengthened selectors......no recall on the early cars though, just expensive repair bills for those of us unlucky enough to have bought one...
After twenty years of VW/Audi roads cars, I'm quite disappointed
Not sure what else to buy instead though? Fords seem to have had DMFs fall out at ridiclously low mileages too.
Fotunately I still own a Mk1 Gti Cabriolet and a Mk2 Gti Kjet. Strong possibilty the Mk2 will come back into daily use. Just wish I had one with aircon and power steering, then I don't think my '02
Ibiza would get a look in against my '86 Gti....how crazy is that?
