Hi everyone

I'm looking to get a new car pretty soonish. I'm only 21 but I've had 5 cars since I started driving and they've all been petrol - and have generally returned around 25-38 mpg. However, I'm starting a new job which will require me to commute around 80 miles a day (most of it on the A19) so I need something economical(ish) but more importantly, fast.

I was initially looking at the Leon 1.9 FR but my attention was drawn to the Ibiza Cupra TDi, which seems a lot quicker for the same money.

Could any owners here verify that I could get around 45mpg on easy going motorway journeys (driving sensibly, of course)? I like the idea of decent economy mixed with impressive performance. I've heard from a few owners that Seat seem to understate their performance figures. One guy claimed his Ibiza Cupra TDI was a lot quicker to 60 than its official 7.4 seconds suggests. Do any owners on here find this too?

Finally - and I know this is a Seat forum, but - are there any alternatives out there from other car manufacturers you can think of? I'm looking for a fast turbo diesel, preferrably around the size of a Fiesta/Focus. I've looked at the Skoda Fabia and Golf (eugh), and neither seem to offer anything like the performance of the Ibiza. Most Ibiza Cupras seem to be around £12,500-£13,000 (trade, about 5k on the clock) which seems a lot of money, so I'm looking around first.

Many thanks for any advice in advance

On my modified PD 130 Ibiza, I didn't get around 45mpg on motorways...more 50-55mpg! 45mpg is very achievable!

The 0-60 on the 160 was better than my 172bhp 130, and I was able to get high 6s in that. I wouldn't doubt the 160 owner in saying that it's quicker than that. SEAT probably half load the car when doing 0-60 figures.

The only real alternative at the moment is the Fabia vRS, which is basically an FR130. Honda haven't brought out a Hot diesel yet, but I think Ford have, or are doing a Fiesta ST TDCI.

LOL hot Fiesta St? I think you might be referring to the Fiesta Zetec S TDCI, which is rather look warm in comparison to a PD130

Before my car was wrecked at the weekend, I was getting about 43mpg on the M5. That was doing a steady 70mph with odd overtaking speed here and there.

Hi mate,

I've got a PD160 with added Revo. I often see MPG's in the 50's. The best average I've got was 58.5.

Take a PD160 for a spin, you won't be disapointed. Even if you are.... Just add Revo!

Agreed, the TDCi Zetec S hits 60 in a bout 11secs with about 90 bhp.

If you will pay near 15k i dont mind the ins. i would have said the Cupra TDi also.

Im almost ready to buy a new ibiza tdi cupra, have been doing research on the standard spec. but cant figure out if rain sensing wipers and automatic lights come as standard

As far as I know they dont. At least not two and a bit years ago when I bought mine.

Not sure if its changed since, but knowing SEAT probably not.

Im currently thinking of buying a cupra tdi myself. You had any probs with yours? Is it fairly rapid standard? cheers.

No problems at all, not even a squeek. Only ever been back to the dealers for its services. Its done many trackdays, and 35,000 miles and has never missed a beat.
Its probably been my best ever impulse buy!

They are fairly quick as standard, but as always it can be improved on. Out of the small hot hatches that are out at the moment, I think its the most rounded.

excellent. cheers. Im probably gonna go for the revo upgrade to 190bhp if I go ahead with the purchase. Will I need to uprate the clutch? If so how much would I need to spend? (sorry for the thread Hijacking)

Honda haven't brought out a Hot diesel yet, QUOTE]

EDIT! my bad just looked and its 140bhp! what a lyer!

Ive had a quick spin in the new type r, only a brief blast round cheshire. Loved the inside, certainly a few steps up from the Ibiza. Should be having a longer go next time im up in Liverpool. Didnt feel quick, but the speed which the speedo went up showed it obviously was.
