guys just saved me a search thro an over crowded search result :p

where is the cat on the ibizas, is it on the way down from the manifold, or on the flat under the car?

So it seems welding a wee pipe in , replacing the cat is a nice wee upgrade??? i know all the mot jargon, my mates an MOT tester, but never had a mate of mine, de-cat his turbo diesel :)

Forgot to put in here, does the de-cat end up with any warning lights etc on the dash etc?

cheers frazer

im a mot tester the smoke tester we have counts down from 5 secs then full load for 2 secs let it idle if its over you have to do it again max of 6 times if its readin over the limit its a fail.

just checked my smoke test results from the past 2 years

results befor i had a good map on and still had my cat on are

1.70
1.17
1.29

zero drift

max aloud is 0.10 actual is 0.00

mean value

max aloud is 3.00 actual is 1.39

last years results with better remap and de cat fitted are

0.09

zero drift

max 0.10 actual 0.00

mean value

max 3.00 actual 0.09

just shows havin a better map and a decat dont make your car smoke as much

some people might think im a mot tester and my car passes every time but it dont i want my car to be safe.:)

Hope it goes well :D

If you get a chance take some pics and note down a basic guide as this could be a great cheap upgrade. A lot of folk do this on the x type 2.0 d without any probs.

I know it will prob cost but can you simply buy an after market down pipe which does not have a cat and fit that as my welding is not all that good.

Im sure an exhaust place would be able to slot abit of pipin in liek that for next to nothing, wouldnt take long either.

it does put more pressure on the turbo due to the release in back pressure. But only in theroy to be honest, its more mechanical engineers that will tell you that as appose to mechanics. It will be very sooty though when booted and reasonably loud.

Diesels only get a standing emisions test and not a under load test so can get away with a decat.
