Hello everyone, i hope all is well...

Just a quick question to see if anyone has ever seen/heard of a 'DIY' 4x4 conversion on an LCR?

Ive seen 4 cyl. and 6 cyl. cupra4 options when selecting rear brake discs/pads and various other components, so 4x4 Cupras are out there...

Given the large degree of interchangability between VAG models, would an R32 rear axle/subframe mated to an S3 gearbox fit onto a 2004 LCR?

Ive seen photos of an R32 rear axle, and the 'silentblock' mounts look the same, aswell as all the other mounting locations for the suspension (spring cups and damper mountings).

The most obvious hurdle i can think of is the lack of a transmission tunnel, and clearance for the exhaust...

But if anyone has any info on these issues, it would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

rear floor panels and chassis legs and rear panel are different FWD-4WD so will need some serious modifying

not a bolt in job though so i would look at the 2 a lot closer if i was you :):)

hmmm well i know someone who is actually on with such a job on a 2000 LC.
the propshaft tunnel is already there due to them making the cupra4 in spain.
i aint seen him for a while but he done a few conversions in his time.. wouldnt a crashed s3 be a better donner car ?

S3=R32=TT225

They're all the same.

Nobody said it wasn't possible, just not a bolt up. There's a thread on vwvortex where a guy replaced the rear pan on his 2WD Golf with an R32 Pan by drilling out all the sport welds on each, and swapping the R32 pan into the Golf.

I've definately seen something around here similar and it was given up as generally too much hassle and too costly to be worthwhile.

Probably better to by a european 4x4 leon and convert to right hand drive:shrug:

hopefully one day we will find out if that's the case but personally i'd leave it LHD

usually costing the parts alone kills off the idea for a conversion

Cheers for the info!

I didnt think it would be a simple task to be honest!

Fl@pper, where did you get the expanded assembly diagrams?
They could come in handy one day (95k and still ragging it...!)

Cheers guys!

i have a few 'facilities' on the pc here but for quick reference and tagging images it's quicker and easier to use vagcat.com
