Ah ok Craig :)... yeah it's in Halfords next to the Primer cans. Nothing special, just says Appliance white on the can, basically gloss white. You can get gloss black too - sell them right next to the white ones I use. Yeah Arun - no way was I going to do the whole lot! ... ;). My respay was £300 for the sides, both sides. It hasnt been oven baked though, would've costed considerably more then. but naah it's fine all the same - he did a very good job fairplay to him in his little garage.

The sand paper grading I used on my arches if anyone would like to know.

Oakley (B&Q) - 60 (Got most of the paint off), 80, 120 (brought it down to the primer / metal) £3.29

Wet and Dry (Halfords) - 240, 600, 800 and then 1200 to finish off prior to Priming. Assorted pack - £1.99

Primer used - Halfords Filler Primer - £6.99

If it turns out OK after the last coat of laquer and lasts when washing and polising - then this is vital for anyone restoring their arches :p...

Silly bits and bobs...

Sprayed the Windscreen vents earlier. Gave them a good clean first - and primed them;

Then went on to Gloss them white (3 coats);

The car outside feeling rather sorry for itself. Covered in Monday's headlines;

Telford ay it...
thanks Jenk!... yeah I'd like some guides, do you have any links? Nah I've used filler primer :S... it said it was suitable for bare metal... oops :S... have I gone wrong? It's a hellova kerfuffle! lol, nervous doing it too! I dont understand how you fill in the scratch though... there's always a dip where the paint finishes and comes down to the primer and metal? :S

Edition38 now has a 'paint and bodywork' section, some usefull information in there. Try using a sanding block to get areas nice and flat, found one very usefull when I was having a dabble. Just take your time and keep trying, you will get a good finish eventually. I need to do some dody work soon, think im going to paint my sills/remove rust in the seams.

you dont really need to use filler, for that kind of thing just sand it down so you get a smooth finish, when using primer, apply it lightly round the edges and more thick in the centre, keep sanding the primer and applying till its smooth....then paint over it ;)

Few bits and bobs done. Nothing special - stole some of Arun's ideas... since he's stolen so much from me :p haha - fitted in the windscreen heating vents. Sprayed the door lock interior pins, and messed about with some little details basically.

Halfords - went to buy Tornado Red paint - which on the cover top looks nothing like my car colour ARUN!, looks more to me like Mars Red by VW.
Also bought Holts filler - I believe Arun, that this is what you were on about? In a turquoise tube.
And finally the Hammerite Smooth Brite Red for my callipers...

Hmmm. The vents look very familiar :p...
Yep that's the same stuff I bought.... and I know, the lid looks like a totally different colour, but remember, never judge a book by it's cover, or in this case never judge a can by it's cover ;)

Btw what's with your bonnet? Is it just condensation or something? And door mirrors definetely white... :)

haha naah it's a paint effect on the bonnet...do you like it? :p Ahh right ok - well I'm gonna trust you here ok :p... if you're wrong then I'll... I'll... cry! Ah ok - is it hard to sand and shape it once it's set? How tactile is it?

haha messing - it's condensation - but it's awesome how it condensates in accordance to the shape of the frame underneath - if you open your bonnet - that's the pattern of the frame under... it's kinda cool lol... why it does that I dont know.

lol my bonnets never done that:)... What do you mean sanding and shaping? The fibreglass I take it lol... Have a look at the thread link, you have to make a frame first, then a stretchy cloth over the top, the resin brushed on, once it's dry you can sand it down and use filler to smooth gaps etc, then prime and paint..... That is what I've read though, I've not done it myself, but will be soon ;)

Haha, sorry got confused, I am on my iPod lol..... Yeh apply it, when it's fully dry then sand it.... When your putting it on don't apply It to thickly, won't dry properly then, layer by layer just like you do paint :)

Thats good that you posted a picture of the filler stuff, I now know what stuff to look for when I go to get it!!

If you are worried about getting a colour match you could always go to a paint place and get some matched up. Take your fuel cap off and use that to get the match.

aah yeah good tip! But the Tornado Red VW one is fine you know I think... the colour on the cap (which initially put me right off, is well out! so when I sprayed it onto the underside of my car, (my inconspicious area - as they say to test on cans) turned out to match fine!
