Hey,

Inspired by this thread http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=117350
I decided to try to modify my gear shifter for shorter throw.

Took off the shifter component to find that the original pin cannot be removed and is pressed into the shifter. The guy in the other thread seems to have a modified shifter and none original bolt.

So not to be beaten, I carefully took all the measurements of the orignal pin and basically created my own pin using a lathe to cut it to the correct dimensions and shape and threaded it to catch the nut below the shifter unit.
After determining the position i wanted it to be I drilled a hole in the shifter and tapped it.
Added the new pin, bolted it up and installed it to the car and replaced the cable connector to this.
Works great and feels more like a switch now. Much better. About 40% reduction i think (havent measured).
Can always go back to original too if i want.
See pics below.

That's very impressive...fancy doing doing mine? LOL!

Wish I had the skill/time/ability/energy etc. etc. to do that - it looks very smart indeed.

Top Work Fella,

I think you might be in great demand on here now for this little job.

Don't suppose you fancy producing a few, and flogging them, do you.

and then you're into a whole grey area of having no PLI should it go wrong.

It won't be publicised on this site, that's for sure

Yeah good work, But the car is not cheap so why cheapen it now with DIY Mods? Surely the odd £70 here and there can be justified especially on top quality mods about. i just ordered the short shifter last nite cant wait more speedy gear changes here i come from no other than forge.
