Ian,

Is there something wrong with underslung (yours is)? and mine is although not run yet.
I chose underslung for heat issues but also to lower the C of G, and after seeing so many problems with Sams car melting things.
Sam good luck mate be nice to see how it turns out, and compares to the backdraft and mine when it finaly gets running. lol

It's not the positioning of the turbo I was referring to it's the Jabba Manifold...will it cope with these levels??

No problem with under slung IMO as per factory location.

Is this a totally different beefed up manifold these use compared to the IHI version?

Same manafold which has been ported to fit my larger turbo, as I said this is not the first one they have done

I would be concerned if they have taken a manifold which suits one application or level of power and then port it to suit a "higher" power application........its going to warp and crack IMO

why not buy a manifold which is designed for the level of power you want within its original factory design?

maybe the turbos running cooler to save mani?

a cooler turbo at 400bhp+ ?

how would that work then?

why try running a cooler turbo to save the mani. why not just run the better suited mani so the turbo can run higher/correct temps

no jamie im sure your right and they havnt thought of it:rolleyes:

i doubt the mani exists elsewhere. they are aware of cracking manis. that turbo looks huge. what boost levels are expected?

if ive broken it with 320bhp then it wont get off the dyno with 400bhp..... unless theyve got round it.

full beans at 4k dosnt add up to me so theyve worked some magic somewhere... maybe its all it the turbo/ map

Mike at Jabba did originally desigh the manafold and he has developed this kit, I have been told that the manafold will not crack etc and if it does they will replace/fix, Mike did say they had increased the Nickel content to the maximum.
I have full confidence that I will be OK.

Only time will tell, All I know is it has to be less bother than I'm use too [B)]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a larger more efficient turbo won't run any hotter than a smaller one. If it's kept within it's high effeciency ranges on the compressor map and enough fuel you shouldn't see overly excessive EGT even though the engine is making more power. In fact it's more likely for a smaller turbo to get hotter running it at high boost.

Combustion pressure higher, so some more temp there?

Yes, no?

Restrictions in manifold flow might up temps, but you'll have a larger turbine on that thing.

This is not the first one they have done, Mike at Jabba has been working on this for quiet some time and has had no problem. My last kit was top mount and all that happened was scuttle tray melts, Brake servo pipe melted when one track and had to be relocated. also the heat under bonnet was to much and I did not want to put vents in bonnet to fix.
:)

Not adequately heat insulated then was it.

there's a leon I race against which has Js mani, modded for external gate on Owens turbo, with cams now over 500bhp from >2bar boost

for ultimate flow when you start pushing these numbers is when the collector design comes to the fore.
JS mani has opposing runners which will flow at each other, the small bump in the casting to deflect downwards an dout helps a little, but you do have flows flowing at each other.
Narrow angle merge collector manifolds have no such issue and will flow more for the same effort put in. When you are at thes elevels, you really need to consider external gated or face surge.

I'm sure mike will do a suitable job to make you have a nice big grin..

Its going to be a flyer.

:)

you never had surge issues on your fp turbos though Bill did you?Sams not going for your big numbers either.i spoke to the the guy with the 600bhp(with nos) corrado,he's got the owens turbo with a 65lb/min comp wheel which makes 540bhp.hits 2.1 bar boost by 4200rpm with no surge:)

you know you read threads like this, and even with the work done to mine....you look again and think, god my car is slow:(:)

oh my:-o 400rpm later than mine

great daily driver then:lol:... actually i`d bet mike manages to map it usefully.

going to be a rocket.

that is very impressive

how is that achieved with a much bigger turbo then? (I ask these questions cos I am not clued up half as much as you guys)

I am never ran FP's on JS mani, but a far higher flowing mani (aka my own from Primary Designs..) - I did originally have boost creep as I have said before on the 1st FP green housing so ported the arse out of it and it went away, but was clearly on the "edge" of what it could flow from a 28mm physical size hole, when I ported out to 32mm from a possible 33mm penny gate. muchos closos to max size I could eak out from it.

The Corrado guy is not running JS mani tho is he.

not a good comparison is it.

my turbo surged on the js mani and also surges on the jbs manifold.mine is down to not speccing the turbo properly so unless the jbs manifold is a poor design i think it is a good comparison.
