I don't think the wheel is physically strong enough and the tyre is man enough to cope with higher speeds. Plus it wont be balanced, the wheel and tyre will be different to the one on the other side and therefore accelerating and braking could cause the car to behave very nervously. Not worth risking, IMO. Will be a painful way to find out it actually *was* limited to 50!

@ gavinchappell; do it take it you have the cupra tdi?
If so, when/if you get a full size spare, can you let me know source as i wouldn't mind one in the boot rather than the flimsy thing i do have. Of course if it should fit!!

These sort of things often crop up on eBay, but usually as a full set. But, I'm sure if you bought a set you could find three other people to split the costs with who also want a full sized spare.
