Thanks for the info. I will keep an ear out when pulling away. Is it a real clunk then or a more subtle sound. Did you have problems getting any gears?.

gears were bad on my old one, i lost 1st at one point and linkages had to be replaced, no such probs with the k1 as of yet tho.

And you will defo notice this sound it will come from right under your feet. im sure on the k1s and later cars this problem is ironed out

Probably until one touches 15000-20000 miles. As far as I know, the mounts etc are all the same on the cars on todays production line as they were when the Cupra first came out.

I had a similar problem last week it turned out to be the rear mount on the gearbox

the dealer asked if the gearbox had been taken out for any reason coz it didnt look as if it had been fitted right.:-o

Well mine has developed a noise as well. This thread and this thread here both kinda cover what mine does, but mine is slightly different.

My noise is like a metallic clicking noise rather than a "clunk". The gear box mount bolt tensions are fine and ther CV boots are all still in good condition.

It is coming from the front passenger side and it happens when any kind of torque is applied to the car - any change in speed gives the "click" and it happens in any gear including reverse, also sometimes when letting off.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I compared my car with a MK5 Golf GTi, there was a fair bit more movement in my engine when you shook it by hand when switched off vs the Golf.

Checked Fuse F21 and its ok :p. Any other ideas and suggestions welcome so I can get a heads up on it :)

Edit: Given that this fault is different, from those above, I wonder if it justifies its own thread?

at the last rr day at awesome i noticed how much zboyds engine physically moved when the guy doing the run gave it some beans. i put it down to his extra power and torque.
mine ran a couple of cars later (in stock performance) and was just as bad!
guess the mounts are just v soft rubber.

I have a clunk coming from my Cupra. Its not quite same as the rest of you, but maybe someone has an idea what is wrong?

My cupra does this "clunk" sound usually only when lifting up the gas and revs are going back to idle.
- when stationary, you can just tap the throttle ever so slightly and after about 1-2 seconds when revs have dropped to idle, it says "clonk". Engine has already stopped moving when it does it.
- sound is greatly muffled with original intake + carbon speed box, so I suspect its coming from engine itself.. When having ITG intake on, its a lot more noticeable
- There is a small hole in the outside of my diverter valve hose because of rubbing to engine cover, however it looks like its not through yet. I dont know if its related

I found that my clunk was the driveshafts working themselves loose from the gearbox.

When I had the gearbox swapped out to include the LSD, all the bolts on the drivers side shaft were actually less than hand tight and the grease had been coming out and spraying itself all over the turbo and front of the car.

Easy job to fix, and maybe a bit worrying that it happened.

Also, you may find the exhaust is banging on the under side of the car or the bracket that is fitted to stop it falling on the ground.
