Noise from rear when wet/cold

Just to add another one, this happens to me quite badly and as said in previous posts its really annoying. It happens on the LCR's as well. At first i thought it was my spare wheel moving around, to my disappointment it wasn't.

Yes, mine is still under warranty. I was collecting the car after some other work had been done on it, and I just happened to mention that the rear suspension was creaking badly in the mornings on the way to work. I bought the car in the summer, so this is my first winter with it. The service chap told me that there is a recall out for this, and it involves changing the rear shocks and springs so I just asked them to book it in. There was a bit of a delay as the shocks were out of stock for a while.

Hi m8 do you have any references or paper work with details of tnhis recall ? Ive had the rear suspension lubricated wiv the special stuff at the stealers but after 6 weeks its back. They said it would never require doing again !! so am now wondering if the parts covered under the recall will do the trick ??

Following from a post I made about a year ago, this issue has returned with me too. I have a set of coilovers on mine, so its not springs or shocks for me, definately the rubber bush being dry.
Can I gain access to this without jacking the car up to grease with something?

Hello m8, I spent most of Sat am out on the car. After a good look round i have pin pointed the exact area that causes the hidious noise. Jack your car so one of the rear wheels is off the ground. ( you will see more if u remove the wheel at this point too). Follow the wheel arch liner to the sill and then look in board about 3 inches or so, u will see where the solid rear axle beam( black )meets the chassis. Get right under the car and you will see there is a bush assembly in the middle with a flat seal either side. usind wd40 spray in + around both sides of the centre bush especially where the seal appears 'split'. It is designed so, so it can articulate while the car is on the move. IT IS HERE where the noise comes from when there is grit, salt or excessive moister in between. Once cleaned up apply a generous coating of grease, i used copper as its more resistant to the elements.Make sure you get some in the area where the bush seal looks 'split'. Once done replace wheel and repeat the other side. This will have solved the problem or at least made it tollerable. let me know how you get on ?::clap::clap:

Did you take any pics/or could you?

Then this can be made a sticky and we can all follow it easily.

The Misses car is doing the same and I have isolated every other rattle so far.

Great stuff :):). I am really glad someones had a go at this as mines been driving me slowly mad since this pants weather started.. As above, any pics to help with us dim ones a bit.

Yeah m8 you CAN grese the bush seals without jacking , although there is more access and a better view if you do, I would put some pics on but i have coated mine in copper grease( more resistance to the elements) so you wont get the benefit . If i have to re do it i will clean off ALL the grease, take photo's and re grease.

Now... do I copper grease up into the 'split', or just smear it all over the bush, or both?

Well I've smeared it all around the void in the bush, so will see how it goes!

George, Firstly these pics are SPOT ON. Your car / bushes are identical to mine. I first off thoroughly cleaned the bush especially in the split then lightly smeared the copper grease around the outside THEN heavily coated between the split trying to FILL the gap to prevent the ingress of road grime / salt and moisture. A good test after you've done this is to sit on the boot sill. It may creak/ graunch a couple of times then be quite vigorous until grease works between seals. Go for a drive and it should settle fairly quickly. Mate let me know how you get on . John

Unfortunately I don't have quite enough copper grease to FILL the void, and the car is in the air until the paint dries on the brakes lol. I have loads on the two mating surfaces, and some around the edge, would that be enough? Or would you advise I go buy lots more copper grease tomorrow?

Hi George 130 i had a pot of copper grease which goes along way. I would slap lots into the void to prevent road grime and standing water getting inside. I used a wet finger to cover over like you would if you were using mastic sealant in the house !!

Still no word on an 'official' recall for this then?

My dealer STILL hasnt made contact with me since i put an official complaint into them.So time to up the pace and im going to seat uk for answers. Will post on here if i get any news

I called in to whitedove Cardiff today on my way past and the fitter(with his hands in his pockets) told me he's never heard of this problem on the ibiza nor had 1 in the workshop with problems. I couldn think of the word i was looking for at the time it comes from a large cows rear end??? :confused: :)
