10 mins at the most should clear any bubbles, as long as the stat is open for it to circulate.
Also opening a hot lid on the bottle is not a good idea

So as long as I get it up to temp with the lid off and then ten mins of 2500 revs should be okay? Sorry, I didn't completely follow. I need to drive it to somewhere other than my work to do it or I will get complaints

Topped up the fluid because it needed a bit and it got to temp on the climatronic but not on the dash. All the time I am revving at 2.5k the dash gauge rises up but when I let it idle it drops back down again slowly. Confused.com! It worked fine at the weekend but now ??? Just sits at 1/4 now

Turned the heating down to 21 and it reached temp now as well. I think this is beyond my capability

Right I am sure some of you are unsubscribing to this thread in droves because I am doing yer head in but I did a wee test when i got home and it was at 90 (hardly gets time to reach temp on my way home in this weather!).

I parked up And put the heaters on high and the dash gauge gradually (within 10 mins or so but I lost track) drifted down to the line just above above 60. I put the heater temp down to 24 again and it started to gradually climb back to 90 again over the same period as it fell when the heaters were on high. Is it that the heat was being taken by the cabin fans. It is 3 degrees outside so that must affect it in this temperature if not driving...

I may be being pedantic but I would like to be sure it's doing what it should.

You are drawing heat from the engine it's damn cold out there my money is on the thermostat.
When it is 90 deg the stat should hold it at 90 no questions asked :)

Man, ffs! My thermostat is also new. I don't know what to do now, I should probably go back to the guy I bought it from. He will want me to remove it though I should imagine. Is there no chance it is just okay ??? Lol

It does sound like a stuck thermostat. However, you have a TDI, and they are more efficient than a petrol car, generating less waste heat, to the point where you cannot get them up to temperature by letting them idle in cold weather, you have to drive off to generate enough heat. So if your drive to work consists of a lot of stop-start and waiting in queues, and you have the heat set on "High", it's possible that you're actually taking enough heat out of the coolant to drop the engine temperature.

The heater matrix is fed from the engine side of the thermostat, that is, it is not affected by the thermostat being open or closed.

When the dash gauge drops, what does the climatronic say that the coolant temperature is? If it shows a drop as well, the I suspect you'll have to set your heater a bit lower.

This is mostly guesswork though, as I've not yet had this kind of problem myself.

To me sound like mutley is right......try driving with your heater off, get car up to 90 on dash and on climate screen......if you have a nice long downhill where you can coast down......see if your gauge and climate stay on 90.

I suspect everything is ok.....but with your heater on and very low ambients your car is struggling to warm up.

Oh they can be! My 110 takes at least 5 minutes driving to get past about 40 degrees (i use the climatronic to check, my gauge doesn't work either, despite the sensor having been replaced ) Although once it's up to temperature it tends to stay at 90 until I switch the engine off, at which point the temperature literally nosedives. I've left it 5 minutes and come back to a relatively cold engine!

Yeah I must admit it was only really dropping when heating at a standstill and with my stop start journey. My car hasn't been reaching op temperature on my gauge ob my way to work as the journey is too short; however the climatronic does seem to hit 90 and stay there. Think ill wait for some warmer weather and then monitor it. I think this cold weather is not helping with analysing it. To be fair it is not dropping suddenly anymore or going up and down erratically - I usually set the heat to 22 which is fine - thanks for your input guys it has been LONG!!

Mate just posted this on his wall

Whilst driving along, I turn my interior heater on and my engine temp drops on both gauge and obd Bluetooth plug in device. Turn heater off and engine temp rises. It's a 2006 Vw passat.
Engine temp sensor? Thermostat? or other?
