Thanks for your help chaps!

Think I'm going to go for the thermostat route. I think my engine is just cooling itself constantly due to that being stuck open (if I'm understanding this all correctly??). My mechanical knowledge is somewhat limited but I like taking stuff apart!

Slightly off topic... When installing a new climate control unit in the car I somehow managed to destroy the 12v ignition/accessory feed from the car to the stereo! There are no fuses blown anywhere and there is no current traveling down the wire! A very long shot but any ideas?? (My temperature problem was already happening prior to this!)

The aftermarket stereo receives the 12v constant supply and can eject and load CDs but nothing more. The 12v feed that tells the stereo I've turned the ignition on is dead.

I know this is the wrong thread yadda yadda yadda but whilst I have you knowledgable folks attention I though I'd ask. I've searched high and low on here and through google and no joy!

If i remember gsf quoted me 2 diff ones, one was around £13+vat and the other £22+......i then paid £30ish for genuine one with new o ring and clip....although i got sent the wrong size clip so reused my old one.......when changing make sure the old o ring comes out..mine got stuck in and didnt realise and couldnt get new senser in.

You have checked the fuses at the end of the dash, i mean remove it and check it? list of fuses

Hi Lee,

Been through the fuses dashboard by the drivers door. No visible broken wires. Took lower dash trim off and I'm going to try and run a fresh feed off of the yellow 12v terminal bolt thing! Fusing the wire of course.

Any other ideas?

Cheers, cleverspoon! Think I'm going to try the thermostat. Can't believe the eBay cts would have the exact same problem as the green one I replaced. Apparently the original seat one was black.

Update, finally fixed my dodgy temperature! And it was the cheeky little thermostat! £82 later (sensor and thermostat fitted) and I have a very well behaved gauge and no eml light!! Amazingly satisfying!

Just the pollen filter and door seals to go and my new pride and joy will be complete!

Just to add to those reading through this thread...

I think that if your cts or coolant temperature sensor displays 90 degrees relatively quickly on your climate control and your needle (water temp dial) doesn't move I'd say its a fairly safe bet that your thermostat is fooked. This is measuring the system temperature with an open thermostat with coolant traveling around straight off. This is obvious during the colder weather as it takes a little time say 10 mins of driving for the temperature to start rising on my newly fixed dial. With my new thermostat fitted I've noticed that the climate control temperature reading climbs a lot slower from cold now as the thermostat is closed
