obd bluetooth

I've updated my phone android to 2.1 now - Going to try and get it running again later.

I went onto the Ian Hawkins forums and it suggested that Android 1.5 you had to confirm the pairing in the notifications menu as well as pairing it in the settings menu, so maybe that was the problem.

I've updated to 2.1 now anyway - I like some of the extra features I've got now lol!

[EDIT]

Also the Ian Hawkins forum suggested that in the phone menu - seeing Paired but not connected is fine

[/EDIT]

Dont go iphone they are so restrictive and expensive (for the phone, and for everything else like apps and stuff).

HTC all the way, love my Desire HD. Only annoying bit is still waiting for the 2.3 update, was hoping for it around Christmas :(

I'm still having no joy. The adaptor is paired but Torque just keeps saying "No response from OBD adapter. Check adapter / restart Android device". I've restarted the phone a couple of times and checked the adapter, mine doesn't appear to have any LEDs or buttons or anything on it tho.

Anyone seen this and got any ideas?

I'll try it in the g/f's MX-5 over the weekend.

Mine came with a little CD with a bunch of software on it, will see if any of that has any more success, or at least rule out whether the adaptor is faulty or so.

The CD is just for setting up your computer to connect to it if you wanted to do that

Yeah, was thinking maybe if I can get some PC software to work ok with the adaptor then it'll rule out a fault with that.

how do you get a bhp reading with the Torque app? Everything else seems to work for me but I have not had a reading for that at all.

do you have to do a 0-60 run for it to work it out or does it get an exact reading from the ECU? i havent had any gps signal yet (need to wait for my phone mount to arrive) so havent been able to do a 0-60 if thats the reason

Cheers

after you did this did it work?

Ok well this is the Bluetooth OBD dongle I bought:

Just comparing the protocols more closely (from the ebay description) between that and the one Lee posted earlier in the thread and it appears it's missing the following protocol:

SAE J1939

Suppose I should have checked that earlier before I bought it! Whoops! I did think it looked a better build quality than some of the others, hence why I bought it.

Anybody?

Right... on further investigation. The BT OBD dongle I bought supports the following OBD protocols:

▪ SAE J1850 PWM (41.6 kbaud) =Ford Vehicles
▪ SAE J1850 VPW (10.4 kbaud) =GM Vehicles
▪ ISO 9141-2 (5 baud init, 10.4 kbaud) =Asian, European, Chrysler vehicles
▪ ISO 14230-4 KWP (5 baud init, 10.4 kbaud) =Keyword Protocol 2000
▪ ISO 14230-4 KWP (fast init, 10.4 kbaud)
▪ ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 500 kbaud) =CAN for vehicle diagnostics
▪ ISO 15765-4 CAN (29 bit ID, 500 kbaud)
▪ ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 250 kbaud)
▪ ISO 15765-4 CAN (29 bit ID, 250 kbaud)

The protocol I mentioned I'm missing was:
▪ SAE J1939 =Heavy Duty Vehicles

So looks like that might not be necessary.

I should probably mention I've not actually been back out to the car to try connect since updating my phone lol!
