So 240 for the cupra, 197 for the FR - typical VW pattern - 240 = R32/4, 197 = GTI FS 200 - hints therefore to a 160 or 170 bhp diesel as per the Golf GTI TDI planned for May this year.

Start saving then!!?

Sounds like quite an interesting line-up. Can't wait for some prices release dates of the diesel - gives me something to look forward too ;)

Autocar say 240bhp for the Cupra

confused now

quote from auto express

Engines from VW's FSI petrol and TDI diesel range will be available when the Leon arrives. The Geneva show car was fitted with the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the Golf GTI, coupled to a six-speed DSG sequential manual box. This combination is tipped to appear in the next Leon Cupra, while an even hotter 220bhp Cupra R could arrive in 2007.

i thought there was not going to be an r any more

Correct - Auto Express have made an error.

Yeah - dream on - the V6 is coming along with the 4 wheel drive haldex system ;)

Remember, it is soundling like the Leon Cupra will be on par with the R32. If the FR is 200BHP and is level with the R32 - V6 would be the next logical step surely. I'm guessing the FR will be similar in price to the LCR and the Cupra will be around the 20k mark.

Pure speculation of course ;)

Scott - I really _do_ want to believe you but... experience tells us otherwise. SEAT uk weren't allowed 4wd or a v6 in the UK and I don't think the situation in VAG has changed on that. VW and Audi will want to keep their respective 'premium niche' in the market. I think 240bhp from the 2.0T is more than do-able (given that fact i got 240bhp from the 1.8T) and far cheaper for SEAT to implement. Like it or not, SEATs alledged positioning as the 'sporting' VW just hasn't come to pass..

20k Cupra? Isn't that what the Golf GTI goes for (can't remember)? In which case... why buy the lower-class badge?

Don't get me wrong - I love my SEAT and i'm not a badge snob (hey, i used to drive a Rover) but are SEAT doing anything different from last time? The leon and toldedo were far to alike last time, this isn't changing - in fact, it's got worse with the altea in there too. Of the 4 new SEATs on sale, only the Ibiza looks any different (and I have no love for that car at all). I think SEAT have a real indentity crisis - not just in that all their cars look too alike, but in that nobody (including them) seems to know their position in the VAG group.

Food for thought.

it's not a case of 'not allowed'

they have to put their case forward to SEAT Spain to 'tool up' for making the vehicle in whatever spec - together with projected sales @ £xxxxx

SEAT Spain decide based on the likely hood of selling it.

Timbo you could be right. A blown version of the 2.0T would make more sense. Still, we can always dream.....

Don't forget Leons' have had a V6 in them before (just not in this country)

Sweet- gr8 inside- apart from colour of wheel.
That front end is real imposing- as with the old one, when the front profile fills some ford owning numpty's rear veiw mirror, they just don't know what it is-

The design boys have done, hats off!

I don't agree - I think SEAT would of sold a heck of a lot more cars had they released a 4wd cupra over here (perhaps more so in TDI form). They happily 'tooled up' for the Cupra R and that was supposed (i say supposed) to be a low volume seller - which then shocked SEAT when people went out a bought them in droves. Is the average LC/LCR owner going to buy the new Leon Cupra for just DSG (probably optional extra) and 18bhp more? Or would we all switch in a heartbeat for haldex, DSG and a bit more oomph? I know i would.
I think VW and Audi are quite happy to have SEAT stuck with 2wd, so long as they can charge what they do for the R32 and TT.

I would happily buy they new Leon in a TDI cupra form when it's released with 4WD..

I doubt that they will release it with 4WD - but if anyone for seat reads these fourms (which i suspect that they do!) - then please for the love of god give it some serious consideration!

As it is at present - I *will* be buying the the New Leon when it comes out, I'm planing 1st March next year (06 plate) - assuming the cupra looks similar to what the prototype pics show !

If you look at the reviews from the Golf GTI - everyone loves it and the handling of it, and seeing as the New Leon will be on the same platform, and same (or very similar) suspension set-up - then i think it'll be a winner. :)
