I know its been covered a million times but this is weird.....

Had a spanner and INSP (pretty sure it was INSP) come up about 1000 miles ago, when judging from the previous service it was in fact due.

Changed oil and all the filter and reset the service indicator (trip reset knob and ignition) and its been fine, till today.

When it pops up with a flashing OIL and spanner, then retreats to just a spanner until next started.

Given that I did reset it last time, it can't be the service indicator again, but it appears to be.

Oil level is fine so its not low oil level.

Are there 2 "service" indicators then? One for service and one for oil? Which both need resetting using different methods?

Chris

Tried to reset it using the trip knob, get the 3 -'s but still got the spanner. So its just reset the service one again :(

Anybody know which vag-com section the oil/spanner is under? (only got shareware so can't scan the whole lot)

Scrub that. Just did a long winded version found on briskoda (turn, press, turn) and its off.

Still need to know why INSP and OIL are different though.....

Yes there are, Chris.

Spanner and OIL - engine oil change due;
Spanner and INSP - maintenance service due.

You reset both events in the same way. When you reset one event the next event is displayed static in the display at which point you have the choice of resetting that as well. You can cycle from one event to another by briefly pressing the reset switch.

The messages are just interval timers, so if you reset either between two actual service intervals you could end up with erroneous indications of when your next service is due.

These messages do not relate to actual oil condition/level or engine problems so you can safely drive with them on (assuming they are just out of sync and that you don't actually need to do what they are suggesting). This is unlikely to be the case for any other warning lamps on your dash however!

Thanks for that.

Should have paid a bit more notice when I reset the INSP then clearly.

Seems odd that you've have an INSP which didn't include an oil change. I can understand having an oil change which doesn't include things like pollen filter, diesel filters etc, but I would expect an INSP service clear to clean the pending oil too.

Anyways, no more spanners for a while :)

I had never seen the INSP before but a month after my second service it came up. Worried it was triggered by a fault I read in the manual to see what it meant. I just means a service is due. It also had about resetting it but recomended a dealer do it. I phoned dealer to ask if it was safe for me to reset it and why it came up as I would have expected them to reset is when they did the service. They told me that you can't reset it untill it comes up. However I'm sure that is rubbish as it didn't come up for my first service so they must have been able to reset it at the service.
My oil one has just come up now.
