Oil Filter

hi all, im going to be doing an oil change on my 1999 seat ibiza 1.4 sport this week. I have been told that there is a difference between an original vw one and for example a champion one. They have said that the vw has a breather on it. Is this true? does it make a difference?.

a genuine VW oil filter has a 'check valve' internally, which a lot of non-genuine ones don't have.

fit either a VW/Seat one, or a Mann one, as they do have the check valve.

Fitted a Mann one to the gf's 1.4 last weekend They're about £3 from GSF

that's what I've been told by the guy at GSF, and I recall reading it on one of the VW Camper forums to !!!! They only recommend to use OE or Mann filters

check valve lets it flow one direction

thought so

it only allows the oil to flow in 1 direction through the filter, which therefore prevents the oil from back flushing through, and taking the cr@p that the filter collects, back into the sump !!!

also fitted in Fram / Coopers and ACdelco but they don't sell them

just dont buy any no name junk - but for an oil filter even genuine it's a pint of beer worth of difference really

Good good. Put a Mann filter in this time. On a slight tangent, how often do you guys change your oil?

every 10k max, more frequent if funds/time allow

Was thinking more along the lines of 5k, done 3k since the last oil change so that should see me through to the end of the summer.

the less miles the better !! lol

Pop into GSF in Derby when you're back up this way, and pick up some 10W-40 Fuchs for about £12 inc 10% discount if you ask nicely

I change mine about every 8k in my 1.4

Use castrol dooberry whatsit (the name escapes me)
