Cupra 20V T, yesterday the OIL sysmbol on the dash starting flashing a few times and then went out when I started the car. I checked the oil, and although it seemed ok, I decided to top up with another litre of oil. However it is still flashing when I start the car and then goes out.... any Ideas ???

If the level was ok when you checked it you shouldn't have added another litre, best get that extra litre drained out before you do some damage

It could be that there is no oil pressure and thats causing the light to flash.

I would get the car looked at asap and I wouldn't drive it.

Thanks for advise.... I dont think I overfilled as it was a couple of mill under the mark... so should be ok... booked in for monday with the stealers, so will wait and see the outcome.... If it ws oil pressure, would the light not be conctantly on ??? Hopefully it will only be a sensor.

As above

1 litre is enough to fill it up from below the min mark.
If it was above this then you've got too much in there

What colour is the flashing light?

If it is orange I have had this for a while now. It is the oil level sensor that is faulty. Check your oil level and if this is ok you need a new sensor.

£67ish from stealer or £40 from vagparts.com

You will need part number 1J0 907 660B

You will be best changing this when you next have a service as you will lose oil when changing it.

As Marshyc says, there's no beep, just the oil can flashing.... hopeing its just the sensor... I will get the stealers to empty some oil if need be.... cheers guys.

Was this solved with a new sensor??

My oil is up to the max mark and is splashing about up the top end.

My car had got this problem now Yellow OIL can comes on when start the car up beeps once and stays on. Im gonna do an engine oil flush and service on my car and change the sensor, if this dont solve it the sump will be coming off and new oil pump on.

read thru loads of posts about yellow oil light coming on but not 1 has said a new sensor sorted this problem out

My oil light used to flash about 5 times and then go out..... When I took it to the dealers, they said it was the oil level sensor.... funnily enough I never changed it as I was going to change it when I did a service, but the fault has now dissapeared.

I have solved my oil light problem i knew the oil was good and it had just been serviced with Mobil 1 oil.

I found that vag com wouldn't clear the light away and after reading thru many posts about oil light changed my level sensor which didnt solve anything.found out that the bonnet needs to be opened and closed for the light to be reset, but the micro switch for the bonnet catch was faulty and taking the negative off the battery and putting it back on turned my light and beep off so im happy now :D:D:D

Try dissconecting the battery for a couple of mins it could be dodgy bonnet switch. make sure you have radio code though. This has recently happened to me
