Stupid question does the mk 4 have a pcv valve? And if so where is it located? Been looking into what might be causing me to burn about 1l of oil every 1000miles in my 2002 1.2 which I assume is the azq engine, and I have been hearing on many sites check the pcv valve as it is a cheap part to replace, then check do a compression test to check the piston rings and valves (I will be doing that soon).

I'm not sure the PCV valve can cause that kind of oil consumption, you should probably look at a compression test.

I am getting one done soon, I just wanted to check it first as I bear that it can cause a fair bit of consumption and before I got it I believe it was used on a lot of small trips and fuel that I think was not the best was used as well

Quick update on this, I did a compression test with a mate of mine who is a mechanic, we got 190psi on cyliders 1 and 3 and 180psi on cylinder 2, the mechanic believes the loss of oil is from a poor fix of the timing chain as the chain cover is covered in oil, only downside is we snapped coil pack 2 in half and now it missfires so a new coil pack is in order :(

does that engine have the plastic labrinth oil separator on the back of the block if so it may be worth removing and cleaning especially were it drains back into the sump the pcv valve sits next to the dipstick
