Performance air filter on 1.4 98'?

I've seen pictures of cone air filters on cars on these forums, but not where I expected :S
and none on 1.4s I don't think.

My car: 1.4 SXE, S reg 98'.

I removed my standard air filter from my 1.4 the other day, noticed no difference in sound, will it even make a difference in sound if I manage to use a cone/mushroom filter?

Literally all I'm after is the nice sound...

Not worth it imo my ibiza came with a cone filter and it hardly made any differance in noise just more of a sucking noise and it gave me less MPG.

ive got a top mount filter (massive filter sits on the throttle body) on mine, when flat out it makes a throaty noise but it suffers from major heak soak and guzzles fuel hahaha
