Thats not too bad to be honest.
You've got to considering 1.2 wont really be economical at 70mph, Your looking at about 4500rpm. If you were travelling at 50mph for example you'd get alot more.

1.2s are not fantastic at motorway miles, You want to look at the 1.9TDI PD100, Cheap on insurance and great on the motorway,

PD is only related to the diesel versions.
The number resembles the horsepower their supposed to have.

So PD100 is 100bhp
PD stands for Pump Deuse which is an injection system VW have been using for a while, They are however moving away from this now and Using Common rail

To be honest min is a petrol fr 1.8t remapped and I only get 300 to a tank and thats with 160 motorway miles also.

4500rpm at 70mph in a 1.2...........its a fraction over 3500

Chances are getting up to speed you will be mashing the throttle. This is going to effect fuel consumption.
