I'm assuming that doing this will show me that Seat are saying something different?

Well my dealer told me to do the same as your dealer did. I then contacted Seat Customer Care in Spain and they told me the dealer MUST be able to do the test theirselves and not asking the costumer to carry the expenses for running 1k miles or so to check for oil consumption. I printed the email and told my dealer to have a look, he then changed his previous statement and carried on the test I just had to pay the petrol because the car was almost empty (20€ will do).

In the work order he wrote the TPI number so I assume it's a recommendation from Seat telling the dealers how they should work on this issues.

You dont have anything to lose by telling them to take a look :)

It will...
the vehicle has to be filled with oil, drained once its hot, wieghed and then put back in to the engine, then a 100km (62 mile) road test has to be done, once done the oil is drained and re wieghed, the diffrence will determine if the vehicle has excsesive oil consumption.
to tell you to road test it until the oil light comes on is lunacy and could potentially destroy your engine,NOWHERE is this advised by SEAT.

After taking my car into today, I argued that running my car down to the light was not something I wanted to do.

We agreed upon performing a test where I run my car for 500 Miles, take the car back, have the volume of oil required to top the car up measured..... times this by two to emulate the usage of 1000 miles and then see if that falls within or outside of the required oil usage to merit a piston upgrade.

haha what a long drawn out process - at least i wont ruin my engine running it on no oil, and this should be quicker as i dont imagine using all the oil in only 500 miles!

I don't know if I am being paranoid but since having my piston rings changed the car doesn't feel as quick. I am going to take it for a run tonight and there is a stretch of road where I know I can get a certain speed. I am going to give it a blast and see if I can do it again but I really don't feel confident it will ......Any of you guys experience the same??

Mine is doing the exact same speed in a bridge slightly upwards near my house.

197Km/h XD

Give the rings a few hundred miles to bed in to the bores, a small loss of bhp could be expected until this is done, let us know if you can still acheive the same speed you could before.

i had the same feeling, even my dad had when he picked up the car after the piston rings replaced, but so far im getting the same speeds.

Well.. Just to update this:

Yesterday my car suffered power loss... Called Seat Assistance and took it back to the dealer. They claim low compression on cylinder 4...

Looks like they messed up when changed the piston rings.

Sorry to hear that. so 4 months after piston rings changed and compression is lost in cylinder 4. Crikey.

We wont be seeing many of these cars about after warranty has ran out im afraid.

Can i also assume you have seat fitted plugs and your car is 09/10 plate? No use fitting new style rings to old version of pistons or damaged pistons. Been trying to find info on these new rings but cant. Im sure time will tell. Best of luck mate.
