Audi S4 B8 - Quartz Grey

Its been a while since I done anything Reader Rides but been feeling a bit left out with everyone modding there cars so I thought I'd chime in and introduce my new car. I originally had myself a highly modified Seat Leon FR TDI.

(I miss the car alot)

However I had a daft idea to sell the car after years of hard work and purchase a 335d.

I had a lot of unfinished business with this car:! My black BMW 335d stolen (search Google, BMW thefts are rife) so with a lot of thought I decided on an alternative as I didn’t want another BMW especially with their vulnerabilities.

Choosing another car was really really difficult. All sorts of things ran through my mind considering

RS4 = Bit old now. Problem with the V8 coking up and a new one coming out.
LCR = Love the mk1s and getting one would of been good but I would of spent thousands on one again which would be pointless as they are quite old now.
Golf GTI = Too slow and decent ones are over priced.
Sirocco R = Reallu like these but massively over priced.
Audi S3 Sportback = Good all round but didnt offer enough bang for buck.

When I did the sums I figured that I could get a good deal on a Audi S4. Test drive one and it simply blew me away how much more capable it was than the 335d. Definitely quicker than the 335d thats for sure and handling wise is out of this world.

Picked up this nice Audi S4 B8 in Quartz Grey.

The paint condition wasn’t too bad but if was obvious it lacked gloss and depth I consider acceptable. I decided that I would detail the car over 7 days doing roughly 4 hours a night bringing the car up to standard. This gave me the opportunity to tackle the engine bay, interior and really focus on burnishing the paint to get a wet look finish without no products helping.

Unfortunately during the 28 hours spent I didn’t get time to remove the wheels and seal all the arches, wheels, suspension etc…Always a next time I guess!

Passenger rear quarter had marring from the clay I used as the panels were quite rough - corrected pretty well in the end.

Results of the burnishing. Wish I had a decent camera to show the “real life” look of the car. Gloss-it polish really done its thing.

Pretty please with outcome! Car is fantastic to drive and definitely feels more of a sports car than the 335d did.

My Future plans for this car:

1) New Air Filter
2) APR Intake
3) Remap - either APR or Revo should see 410BHP.
4) Exhaust
5) 19" Wheels

Progress will be slow as the parts are so expensive. Also getting married in 5 months time so got to be sensible!

Lovely car mate, iv still got a soft spot for the old V8 S4's but you can't get much power out of them unlike yours :(

Can looks stunning but I personally couldn't spend that much time cleaning a car think your mad but what I think don't matter lol

Awesome car mate. Would love one but I would get raped on insurance......and road tax........and petrol...... you get the drift lol.

Maz, Maz, Maz... What can I say other than it's great to see you back with a new Readers Ride finally! It doesn't disappoint. The results look awesome. BTW, the garage looks in great shape these days too!

Will you be sticking with an Audi variant of wheel, or something aftermarket? We're still going with the estate version of the 4, just because of a little one on the way, but the hatchback shape looks very nice.

Hope all is well buddy :)

Looks magic after the detail!

We looked at and drove one a few months back and it was a very capable car, but the wife just wasn't too keen on the size. Got a s3 sport back instead!

Looking forward to these updates! :)

Cheers mate. I liked the older S4s too but I would have got an RS4 in b7 shape.

Stunning work and car [B)]
Thanks Allan.

Well I couldnt leave it in the condition it was given to me knowing what I could do with it. Still needs more work but I am too busy now.

Believe it or not its cheaper to insure than the 335D even though its more expensive and faster...strange world we live in.

I like these. How much is the road tax on it?
£270. Bit different to what the Leon was lol

Great job, car looks brand new.
Cheers willy!

Thanks James. I will tidy up the thread like I did with Leon thread and make sure everything is documented.

Good question. I cant help but think Audi's selection of Alloys is quite good. I am gearing towards RS6 style wheels or BBS style wheels. Some days I like the standard look of the car and others I fancy a change.

I wanted an S3 Sportback but I couldn't justify the cost for one as I would want one that was 1 year old at least. With options I wanted they where coming in at £25k.

Audi S4 B8 3.0T Supercharged AmD Stage 1 Remap

A bit of a mixed day for me really. Found out my grandfather passed away and also went and got myself a remap to take my mind of things.

AMD contacted me on Tuesday stating they had the correct tools to finally be able to do my car. Nice touch with the owner of AMD contacting me personally on my phone to tell me the good news. Popped down there this morning a little bit down but the guys at AMD soon cheered me up [coffee and a whole load of p!ss taking].

AMD showed me an Audi S5 they recently mapped which got pretty good figured from their new map, 400ish and 360lb/ft of torque. We were expecting a tiny bit more with mine as it was a manual not a dual clutch car.

Service was fantastic, whole job took around 4 hours. Whilst the car was standard they took 3 runs which showed 358, 352 and 342 respectively so the car was running very healthy. Shaun explained to me that when they benchmark these cars they always use the lowest octane fuel they can get away with for the power figures. As I use V-Power and Tesco 99 in rare cases he wasn't surprised mine showed a nice increase over stock figures of 333bhp.

Here is the graph of the results.

S4 B8 AMD STG1.JPG

I am over the moon with the figures and the drive is better than the figures suggest.

Town
When driving around normally you can hardly notice that there is any more power. I believe this is because the car is pretty sorted out the box. The massive plus of this is you can drive the car and it is just as comfortable as it was before. All the smoothness of the engine and power delivery is still there in normal every day driving.

Motorway
Like with town driving when in the higher gears and the revs are low the car is just as smooth as it was previously. You do have more torque lower down however it was never lacking previously to begin with. Where the car comes alive is overtaking. Dropping down a cog and allowing the revs to climb you get a surge of power 3500 and a huge surge of power around 4000. This is where the additional BHp really comes into its own because not only do you breeze pass the car your overtaking but you do it with immense power on tap if you choose to hold acceleration. Overtaking whilst in 6th is better due to the extra torque so there isnt really a need to change down unless the situation calls for it.

Spirited
Best part of the remap is when you plant your foot. The V6 engine just roars away and there is massive power on tap from 4k all the way to 7k. The power delivery is just as smooth as it was previously but the extra torque and the sensation of speed is greatly increased. The power is immediate with the car being supercharged! The fact that it is always there with no turbo lag to duel with and no real drop in torque makes it a very fun place to be in. I also now know why the speedo has 200mph on there. This video will give you an idea of what I am talking about http://youtu.be/fo2-oyDcs8c

Conclusion
Extremely happy with the results and I am over the moon that the car can put down all this power with no break in traction. High recommend the remap and AMD was top class today!

:)

Great results and lovely car, Maz.

What made you choose AMD over APR which you had originally earmarked? IMO it was the right choice, as you know they fitted a few things to my LCR as well as its custom mapping; perfect by all accounts. I remember when I had my 335i tuned, it turned a 1700kg car into something very fast, I am guessing as the S4 is not far off weight wise you can appreciate it the same.

I've never driven an SC's car before so I am trying to imagine how it would drive; like NA but much more torquey? I agree with your statement on turbo lag, biggest issue with single turbo cdrs but luckily the current car has two so the lag is limited (two equal size, not small & big like 335d) although probably still not as punchy low down as yours.

Looking forward to seeing it again at AMD in April, it'd be nice to hear it sing on the dyno. I'll be running mine once more, it's a fair biy louder than last time :).

Amazing results for just a map. Bet she feels rapid.
Definitely does. Just eats up the ground real quick.

I was gonna go APR then Shaun contacted me and said they can do a AMD map for it as they have the right tools now. I was let down a bit cause they were promise tool from Revo and didnt get it so Shaun contacting me personally was a nice touch. He also did me a good deal being a long term customer of theres so it would of been rude not too.

Supercharged car really opens your eyes to power delivery and the drawbacks and positives over turbo. I dont think I prefer it over a turbo power car. I love the way torque is delivered with a turbo however I do think that it is much better as a track car a-b type car as the power is constantly there. You never really have to find the right time to shift or worry that when you change gear there is going to be lag. Cant really go massively into detail about it at the moment but I will post something up at some point. Maybe a quick country road blast [within speed limits of course].

I don't think the car will sound as good as yours especially with your new exhaust. I would love an exhaust on my they sound awesome with them but so much ££££££

Great results!

I'm gutted my wife found the S4 too big... :(
My Mrs finds the car a bit big too. However you really do get used to it and once you realise how good the car handles, it feels smaller the faster you go. The grip from the Quattro is truly immense!
