re-mapping a cupra r

quick question guys - a friend of mine is getting his cupra r re-mapped. The (mobile) company say that all they need to do is plug in, and an hour later, no new bits, his 225 will go to 265break with 380 torque (which is more than an M3!). £350. Even improves the fuel economy.

Realise some of you guys will have had this done already, and subsequently had cars retested on rollers, how effective is it?

oh man....not this again! a search will get you loads of info but if the car is standard, a map is unlikely to get you as much as 265bhp. rolling roads are an indicator but by no means accurate, again a search will reveal a massive debate on this "dyno lottery" issue. increased fuel economy is possible with a remap (unless you boot it).

yeah, 255-265 bhp has always been quoted by tuning companies as being the post-remap power output, and 380 Nm is about 280ibsft.

so when people say "bullshit", it's the best kind. the kind that's backed up with "facts".

is it the remap company that's at fault, or the RR's?

who uses BHP and Nm?

its like saying i'm 5"11' and 85kg

use the same imperial or metric!

More and more people seem to be quoting torque in Nm nowadays - makes it seem higher I guess.

Either that or it was a typo. I've seen some optimistic claims but +100lbft would be pushing it.

feel, i think the point about this sounding like bullshit is because by the sounds of it they have quoted exact figures which, as we all know, is almost impossible to do as each car can be different from the last. the figures quoted are not impossible but perhaps unlikely from a generic map on an otherwise standard car.

Pretty effective mate but you need to choose a good company with customer support, someone that just pops round and loads a map is not too useful.............if you have a problem you need to have backup support!

Mobile company is not a bad thing, just need to look into their past experience etc, you don't want a quick remap and then fcukoffskie never to be seen again!
