Hi Guy's,

Bit of a strange one, but on my way to work this morning, the multifunction display showed the words Brakes and this was followed by warning sound, then went off of it's own accord, I know the brakes are ok, so has this happened to anyone else ? have I got some sort of gremlins in the electrics ?

Had a similar problem with my old A4. It was a dodgy connection to the brake pad wear indicator.
OR it could be pad worn , how old's the car ?

happend on works car the other day turned out that it was one of the cables coming from the brake pads had a slight cut in it running repair and its sorted!!

In that case it could well be, like carls and my a4, an iffy connection to one of the brake pads.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last week- it's been coming on every 100 miles or so since last Thursday. Seems a big coincidence- could it be the cold weather?

any further developments on this matter? I've not had mine sorted yet and it still comes on intermittently. Definitely seems to be worse when weather is colder- am I correct in suspecting that this would lend weight to the theory this could be a sensor fault?

Had mine serviced last weekend, to comply with the warranty terms, mentioned to the dealer, but they did not have an answer, said they would contact seat technical, but as yet I have not had a return call. 8 times this morning on the way to work (-4 degrees ), I have done a complete scan with VCDS but nothing is logged, but having said that brake pad wear sensors, would not log a fault code, I will try to check it out tomorrow lunch time, if I get time as we are a bit over run with recalls at the momment ( toyota technician )

Ok cheers for that pal. The cold weather definitely seems to be influential- mine was worse this morning than ever before (between -2 and -4) but by the time it had warmed up this afternoon it was back to its usual, once every 20 mins, self. Keep me posted when they get back to you pal, cheers, John.

Update,

had the car in our workshop this morning, removed the front wheels to inspect the wiring for the, brake pads, when I unclipped the connector on the nearside, I found that one of the terminals, in both sides is corroded, causing high resistance, so i think with the small amount of moisture in there, when the temperature drops, the resistance becomes greater, I have taken images and been in contact with the Seat dealer that serviced it last weekend, been promised a return call on Monday. However, it's not the amber brake pad wear indicator light that was comming on , but a red warning.

Red brake light.
I have had a further dig about, seems this was a known problem with the Audi B7 chassis, caused by volltage spike and or battery that was failing, if the battery checks out ok, there was a mod to fit a relay which stops the voltage spike to the dashboard, I'm waiting confirmation from the Audi forums, but it looks like we might have an inherent fault, which Seat need to address.

Hi Kev, so it may well be the case that this job can be done under warranty?
Cheers
John

Just had both the dealer and Seat customer services on the phone, dealer was going to talk to the technician who serviced my car and come back to me, and customer services asked if I could book in with a dealer and then advise them who and when, she said they would take it from there.

so may I suggest that all thoughs owners with the same fault, contact customer services, by phone or email, so that we can get this resolved under warranty, because I for one do not want a big bill for something that should be warrantied.

Add another car ('59 plate ST170) with identical brake warning issues, also primarily in the cold weather...

Hi Guy's,

Does your red brake warning light ,come on when you have just started the vehicle ?

Did you wait for the glow plug light to go out, before starting ?

Mine doesn't always come on straight away- I always wait for the dash lights to go out when starting up. The main predictor of how soon it comes on after starting up definitely seems to be the temperature outside. It's far worse first thing in the morning and last thing at night, sometimes coming on virtually straight away and staying on for the duration of 90 minute long journeys.

Did you get any joy with Seat? Ive been in touch with Lookers Manchester who claimed to know nothing of the issue. I'm due for a service in the next 8 weeks so will probably push the issue with them a bit more then.

Not had word from Seat since last Monday, and not had any word back from the dealer, seem just as bad as Skoda dealers, anyway I pretty sure I've sorted mine,( not been on now for over a week and temperatures of -3 and lower ) I moved the battery positve lead away from the brake master cylinder warning light, if you look closely at the wiring, it runs very close, and can touch the switch, this also can transfer electrical interference, when cranking the engine on start up, the only other thing I have done, was to remove the screen inside the top of the mastercylinder, and top up the fluid level, I put may be 10ml in, so it was showing full prior to this, but a mate who is an Audi master tech, said that the screen causes a slight vacum and although the level looks ok, it's down ever so slightly.

I too have this problem and it started this week.

Seems to be when the car is cold, comes on for 5-10 seconds and then goes off.

I drove 80 miles to Sheffield and it happened again as I left motorway and turned right on roundabout. This also happened earlier in the week when making a right hand turn. Not sure if the right hand turn is purely coincidental though.

It's in at the dealers tomorrow and I hope they can identify it. I mentioned that several other people have had the same symptoms.....the service guy drew a blank.
