A remap won't kill your turbo. Your driving style will if you don't know how to treat them.

Give it the beans when the car is NOT warmed up and also not cooling your turbo down by coming off boost before you park up after it's been used strongly will ruin the turbo.

I never boot it until 20-30mins into a drive, and come off boost on my drives home way before the car switches off on the drive.

If you don't follow those steps or similar, your turbo will go mapped or non-mapped.

The alarm we have fitted (clifford) has a cool down button fur that purpose. Get random looks from people when walking away from a running car!

Nice.

Yeah I think my neighbours wonder why my car sits idling on my drive for 5-10mins before I drive anywhere and when I get back from a drive. Only really bother when I've been on a good bit of boost on a spirited drive etc.

I just know the seals on the turbo etc will go if you don't warm up/cool down properly, and I don't fancy paying for a replacement k04 when I could avoid it :)

Not booting it or getting on boost before 20-30 mins is a bit overkill, as a rule wait until your water temp is at 90 before you boost to any degree of pressure, then you can pretty much say your oil is up to temp and well circulated around your turbo bearings, the same for cooling down just drive off boost for the last 5-10 mins, keep oil changes regular, I do mine every 3000 miles just think of your turbo like you when you wake up!! you don't wanna be made to run 100 metres as soon as you wake up you wanna wake up first n eat your wetabix and have a cuppa!

Oil is the lifeblood of any turbos long life! It makes me cringe seeing people get in start up stone cold turbo car then bean it!! :(

I am also very tempted to have my LC remapped. The only thing which worries me though is the effect on my insurance premium. How have other owners found the cost increase? Are some insurers better fir insuring remapped/modified cars than others?

Get an oil temp gauge and have a heart attack;) Oil lags behind coolant temp by quite a way so Id give it another 5mins after coolant on a cold morning. Not so bad during summer though.

I service my car every 6 months (oil & filter) regardless of distance. I call it preventative maintenance!

I know the small turbo is running low boost for reliability so i can't get my head round how running it at such a high PSI won't harm it or reduce it's life.
I can understand why people do it as i have previously and loved the difference but i had issues.
I do drive my cars hard though but then i do warm it up first and i service it on a regular, but then the point of remaps are to get more power for you to enjoy. I just wish they could be as reliable as manufacturer setup's over the long term.
