I left my phone in my car on Saturday for 5 mins while popping into SWMBO's parent's and some little $hite decided he liked the look of it, broke the passenger front window and nicked it.
Yep, I know I shouldn't have left it in the car (it was tucked away in the slot under the stereo).

Anyway.......RAC man came out last night at around 10:30 to change the glass, but he couldn't get the glass out of the bottom of the door. So, I now have a car that sound like a bottle bank skip, with about half a smashed window rattling around inside.

Anyone have any ideas about getting it out, without resorting to pulling the inner door card off?? At the moment, it looks like I will be trying to make an extension for the Dyson out of some flexible pipe I have at work and pushing it down into the two holes in the inner door card that have rubber/plastic bungs over. Does anyone know what access around there is like? I think the pipe is around 20mm OD and fairly squidgy. Will I have clearance to get it pushed to the bottom of the door??

The window is now really slow to go down and come back up, so I don't think it is aligned correctly in the runners and need to get that looked at.
I also think the guy who repaired it has broken one of the stud clips for the door card up by the mirror, as it won't sit flush.
I will be getting RAC to pay for a new door card if that is the case.

Any suggestions on the above would be appreciated!

You are going to have to remove the door card, and then the inner door card which is a piece of sheet metal with things like the window motor attached to it. Happened to me in January, but managed to do it myself. Make sure you get all the glass out as it comes out the bottom of the door from the drain plugs and can easily scratch the sills. It's a pain but it has to be done.

Cheers Spyke85.........

are you sure it's not possible to get a tube in down those two black covers shown on your pic?? I was hoping to do that, then tape the end to the Dyson and suck it up that way??

How hard is it to remove the door cards? I found a couple of threads on it last night but it was late, so I favourited them to read later.
How easy is it to remove the switches from the outer door card??

The black covers are used to align the clamps that hold the window, so there isn't any room to get down into the bottom of the door. And from experience you will find glass appearing from nowhere so its best to whipthe door card off, give the door a few taps so all the glass falls down and just keep hoovering up. You will still probably miss little bits!

Door card is easily removed, thread on here talking you through it. Have to give it a good yank though to finally get it off. The inner piece of metal, remove all the connections such as speakers, electric windows and you also have to remove the window motor. Take care though not to break your new window!

You were right!! I managed to get a pipe down into the bottom of the door, but it was all to fiddly and doing it in the dark didn't help!

I think I am just gonna take it into a garage and get them to do it.

Still need to call RAC though and get the window put right. The motor can barely move it for half it's stroke and then it flies through the second half. Think it's a bit on the skew.

^^^ it sounds wrongley adjusted if it does this but dead easy to change the glass take door card off remove metal card with about 12 10mm bolts and remove the external handle from the side of the door with a 25torx under peep hole plastic cover and undoo the multisplined torx from the door catch and the whole cover will release hoover up all the glass and refitt it all! before tightening the two 10mm bolt that hold the window run the window up and down a few times to be sure it is possitioned correctly!
