Replacement Air Filter

As any one changed there standard air filter for an after market filter

I always used to change them on my petrol car's .

Yep, fitted a Green panel filter a couple of weeks ago.

Yes it did perk up a bit but then I also did the MAF connector thing at the same time although I did get very good results on the Awesome RR day the other weekend.

I think i may go for the K&N filter i have used them in them past.

I know it's been mentioned in the past that K&N filters have been known to come over oiled which has a detrimental effect on the MAF so just check it before you fit it.

I do prefer the Green/Pipercross Panel filters though

Paid £45 + P&P which is on the dear side but I wanted one fairly quickly for the RR. Bill @ Badger 5 was cheaper but unfortunatly didn't have any in stock.

Thank you ..... I have K&N's both of mine - Cleaned twice now over 4 yrs of fitment - Still going strong - No Maf issues //

Yes there has been many many discissions on this forum about the talk about this
No it is not K&N or any other filter that kills the MAF
The MAF`s have issues to start with on standard cars , so we have decided that it could be the air passing through that kills it

I've been thinking about the panel filter replacement, Ace. What is the MAF connector thing you did? and what figures did you get on the RR?
Sounds like this will suit a remapped car quite well.

Just ordered a Pipercross from Awesome GTi, but didn't get free postage, must have missed that.

Does anyone know where I can get a driver bit to fit the MAF housing?

Mines the only Altea to run on the day.

Why do you need a driver for the MAF housing ??

Ace, nice dyno info, great figures.
Ordered a tube of the grease stuff off ebay. I wanted to have a look at the MAF sensor wires to see if they were dirty. On the MR2 Roadster owners club we check these yearly and give them a clean, if necessary with carb cleaner.
2 things, NEVER touch the wires as they are extremely fragile nad expensive if you ruin it and make sure the cleaner doesn't come into contact with the sealing ring as it can corrode it.
In theory, they shouldn't get dirty, but they sometimes do. Hence the torx bit enquiry.

Got the Pipercross filter today, nice one Awesome GTi, seems a quality item.
Existing filter was filthy after 25k and the car seems to go along on slightly reduced throttle openings at any given speed than before.
I have only opened it up briefly tonight and it flies, it could all be subjective, but it does seem to breathe better, and a bit better on fuel. ( it was quite mild today though)
Basically I'm saying its worthwhile changing the filter for something better.
