Has anyone replaced their Arona boot light? Mines a 2020 and looks to be a smaller sealed unit? About 55mm x 25mm.

Don’t think it could be dimmer if it tried!!!!

Is there an LED part number in existence or recommended product? Any other models fit?

You could pull it out if it's like the Ateca one and read the serial number on the back. Might be the same. The Ateca one is a sealed LED modules with the serial number on the back, if that tallies with what's on the thread there are upgrades available.

The Ateca has the serial number

8J0 947 4098

I believe the 8 on the serial number isnt material and they are also found as 8J0 947 409.

It's used widely on VAG cars for boot and foot well lighting. The serial code will be printed on it.

See posts 6 & 4

(The thread dwells on a car with the wiring to it missing, but yours will be wired as mine was)

There is a chance it's the same unit. @Bedlam upgraded their Ateca one to a four LED unit. Just dont loose the lead inside the body when you pull it out. I recall I just used a screwdriver to pull it forward for the picture. That is the service point to get at it so the lead shouldn't fall off since its clipped to it.

I believe the company Bedlam recommends had the units fabricated to the standard (they say that), but I might have got the wrong end of the stick. You might need to take the housing apart and put the unit in that or it comes in its own housing. Bedlam would know since he replaced his. Worth extracting out of the panel, checking the serial number printed on it and taking a possible punt if it's the same. 4 LED unit Bedlam recommends if that's the case.

When I looked at it I was looking to replace a dim conventional bulb, found it was LED and stopped. Brighter upgrades were not available back in 2016/17 which they are now or wasn't aware off.

Failing the serial number being different, suggest you Google that for upgrades.

I see 18 of those light emitting diode pads so it should be bright. The printing on the plastic cover suggests equivalent to 20w. I guess the normal bulb is equivalent to 5w. Might have to revisit my Ateca boot bulb project. Think they are interchangeable. Good find.

I see they also sell the equivalent to the Ozzie sunshades with the twist action to close down for packing. Useful for black leather seats which you were forced to have in the Ateca Xcellence at launch. Resort to sitting on towels... seem to be an old North London trick I spotted which works well if you forget to put the shades up. 🤣

Seriously?

That takes me back to the good old days of a Suzuki SJ in the Greek Islands - beach towels on the seats were mandatory items 🏖️

Yep, millions of Greeks can't be wrong (y)
Non believer 😍.

I'm sure that was a Dutch site for the device. All hail the Chinese communist party... just have to check whether they are a sponsor of the board 🤣.

Didn't get my discount but wasn't a new Aliexpress member. They already know everything about me since I use ES Explorer.... modded and not modded.

I'm sure the LEDs will be fine the rear indicators and high intensity reversing lights work fine after 4 years.... all that rare earth they buy from Australia and Africa 😉.

I've got two on the way but a day or so later than yours I guess. I took your cue. I didn't fancy the solution that Bedlam had which was opening up and putting in that circuit board.

Those light pads are SMBs. The more the merrier.

SMD stands for Surface Mounted Devices, a special type of high power LED lights. With no wires, these devices provide less fuss and with seamless application. Instead, SMDs have tiny metallic contacts that can be directly soldered to circuit boards.

Think I'll take a clothes peg out when I fit them just to hold the cable so it doesn't drop down the back whilst the light is off. A person with a demo Ateca Cupra has a light with no cable... Think we can guess where that is.

I actually did open the old unit to fit LCD but you have to butcher internal fitting to get the bulb holder out and fit new board. Not worth it for what these units cost.

Ordered interior lights separately so see what they are like, not sure how to access the front reading light cluster yet, looks an expensive unit if done wrong.....
