• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
I really need to order one of these soon lol. So much more light from the pictures looking at them.

And adamb87 why.bot.just get the dealer to turn them off? Its not even a 5min job and they don't charge for me or couple other people

I like the cornering lights just not people tellin me there out haha

complaint

today i have writen to seat head office expressing my concern about the poor illumination of the 10w bulbs they are now fitting, previous models had a 21w bulb fitted of which the glass diameter is larger than the 10w one.
i await their reply, and urge others to complain, they then might modify them for future buyers,

I can confirm as IbizaTD108 found the CREE LED strobes after the ignition switched off if you have a DSG gearbox,in fact it started flashing as i inserted it with the ignition off. That is with the SC with one reversing light.I have emailed the company selling the resistor to see if they think it would solve the problem.

As some may know, I had to send my cree bulbs back as they didn't fit through the cut outs in the cluster. Is there not a direct higher wattage replacement that I could get from the dealer or Halfords? Does anyone know what the standard reverse bulb is in the 5dr Mk5?

It's an R10W with BA15s base. The trouble is that higher wattage ones with this base are all physically larger. For example the 21 watt lamp (P21W) that is often used for rear fog lights and direction indicators has the same base but is much bigger. This is why you need to go to a LED type which will be more efficient.

Wikipedia have some information on car lamp types:-

That was ntemis21 I believe.

We haven't heard from him since he said he was buying these lamps for his 5 door.

Are you there ntemis21? Did you have any luck with the 7 watt Cree LED lamp?

Did you check up on the success story with another CREE LED bulb that was posted on your reverse light thread? The poster said it fitted without problems...

Here is the link for quickness.

Sorry folks I see that ntemis21 did indeed reply on the other thread that the lamps fitted fine.

Yes I did see that post - I have since PM'd him about them too. Although he said a friend bought the same and had to file some of the cluster to fit them through. It just occurred to me that there may be a larger wattage bulb available from the dealer. The seller of those narrower cree bulbs is currently away (they come from China) and the listing is due to end soon. Had a sick pet to deal with so haven't had much time to look into things further and search fro other sellers.

Update on fitting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300628659451?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 this to a 3dr SC with DSG,the strobing seems to be overcome by fitting the resistor http://www.ebay.com/itm/10w-LED-Res...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item41458fe7fc have done it today.I think IbizaTDI08 might be interested and others with this problem.I have a spare resistor as they came in pairs if anybody wants to give it a go.

Hi, how did you fit this?

I don't have the dsg, but I do get an error display on the dials! Would this solve that?
Or could I just fit another resistor onto the leg of the bulb?

Thanks

J

Reversing light

The only problems have been with the DSG strobing on the 3 door SC with the single reversing light, previous posts by others say reversing light not on bulb failure system.

To clarify, have you fitted the CREE LED reverse bulb and are now getting an error light in the dash? If so when you replace the LED bulb with a standard bulb does the error light go out?

I have the LED bulb installed in my manual Gearbox FR TDi and had absolutely no issues.

Are you sure the error light is being generated by the reverse light and not anther lamp elsewhere in the car?

Yep, this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300628659451?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Error light only comes on when in reverse gear, then only goes out when the engine is turned off.
If I replace with original bulb I don't get the error. And all other bulbs are working.

Thanks

J

Strange! Have you tried reversing the bulb polarity just in case that makes a difference? Don't think it will but might be worth a try if you haven't already done so...

Yeah I tried that. Might put a resistor on it and see what happens. (will let you know if it works).

I fitted mine last night.....

WOW... What a difference! I cannot believe the difference this makes. Many thanks Dan for spotting this, a HUGE difference in light output, almost like daylight :)

One thing for sure you certainly get the attention of anyone behind you when you snick it into reverse. Could not help but giggle at the expression on the myopic candy floss haired Microbe driver in the supermarket car park earlier

No warning lights on my 60 plate MY11 3dr oil burner.

EDIT: I also removed the little clear plastic thing in the holder as per Dans pics so the new bulb fitted better. I had a spot of fun fishing it out of the tail light assembly when putting it back together :)
