It's been a while since I last updated...well since last year which isn't like me but had a lot going on recently that I haven't really done much to the car. But this weekend just gone I gave the 3rd gear whine a miracle cure and can happily say that it has now gone.
Very easy fix as well and for £10 it had to be done!

This is the guide I used:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthre...tch-disengagement-issues-mainshaft-axial-play

Parts needed:

This is the cap that took a while to remove

Circlip removed thanks to a couple of picks I borrowed from a friend, and without these I would have struggled!

Shim fitted then circlip applied over the top. Job done :D

Gave the car a quick polish, but when the warmer weather decides to finally show its sunny face then I will be giving it another going over with the machine polisher.

Thanks for posting that info. I've read that a few people have been planning to do this but I was never really sure why, until now :) I'm not sure that I have any of those issues, from what I've noticed but surely it's worthwhile doing the mod as future proofing? As I'm working in that area at the moment, I might as well do it. I guess you ordered the parts from VW directly?

Good update, and the car is looking nice. Hope you're going to stick with it? :)

Its a very good guide to keep bookmarked just incase you develop the problem later on in the future. I know people with the whine say that you do get used to it after a while but for me it annoyed me so much to the point I didn't downshift in third at all.
I got it from a SEAT/Ford dealer group but VW should stock it as well James.

Thanks though mate i'm sticking with the car for now, going to get a few shows under my belt and possibly sell it just before the winter hits us...again!

Took the LCR to London today. Been wanting to do this for a while now and so glad I did. Will go back for part 2 some point this year as I really want to get some extra special photos in front of some iconic landmarks in the capital but its risky with traffic and security.

P.S the roads are awful in London!

I remember when I drove through the Blackwall tunnel route to go North once and I will NEVER EVER do that again in an LCR that's been lowered lol. Roads are SHOCKING around North London especially...!

Cracking pics as I said on fb mate, looks awesome :)

Cheers mate, London is a very special place if you can handle the carnage it can bring! lol

Lovely pictures buddy, will have to meet up next time and get the two of them together up town

Thanks Jack, well I do plan to go there again so I shall let you know when and we will tear the city up!

Seriously mate I headed up North London and the speed bumps there were splitter punishing as well as the cambered roads! Not putting me off going again for part 2.

Cheers though bud :D

Been a while since I have updated my thread as I haven't spent much money on mods, only the upkeep of the car, servicing etc. I have pretty much decided to keep the car now as LCR's aren't worth much nowadays and the love for the car is still there.

First up was an oil change at the end of April as the car had done nearly 10k before it was last changed it last April. As I always do with my cars I put Wynn's engine flush through it every couple of years just for a piece of mind. Also the trusted Valvoline 5w40 went in as well.

New filter

Sump plug and washer replaced with a new Corteco one.

Incoming more boring bits but I did say it was general maintenance so here we go! lol.

I have noticed my rear tyres gradually getting worse over the past couple of months, but they have done me proud as not only are they poor budgets but they have been on there since I have owned the car and a while before that so have had there use. Fresh Avon ZZ3 rubber will be going on very soon along with new rear OE Delphi discs and pads, which don't really need replacing but the rear setup just needs a little bit of a tidy up.

The condition of the tyres and rear brakes as they stand now.

Right now to the modifications. On order are Powerflex dog bone bushes to help put the power down a tad more, judging by reviews this is the case anyway.

LED rear lights will be on there way within the next couple of weeks as well, been wanting these for a while and will finish off the rear end very nicely.

Finally I have pretty much set my heart on these wheels. After many many months of trying to decide on what set to go for, I.E Rota grids, Rota Forces, XXR 527/530, Pro race 1.2, BBS CHR, they have been pretty much done before by fellow MK1 owners so these should be a new one and hopefully I will be the first. 8.5 front and 9.5 rear but I am hoping they will clear the Brembo's but can only try I guess.

Here they are anyway....

Cheers guys, keeping the car seems to be the right decision for me even though a diesel would be very beneficial but it wouldn't get half the looks the LCR gets, unless it was on air ride.
