Hi all,

I have just sold the LCR!!

It's a real shame to see it go.. but I seemed to eat tyres, brakes, and petrol in vast quantities. £300+ a month in fuel alone is a real nightmare!

So, to replace the beast I've gone for a new Altea FR TDI 170. It seems pokey enough, and is far better equipt and more comfortable than the LCR anyway :)

I am new to the whole Diesel thing, first one in about 10 cars owned...

Do I need to run it in the same way as I did on the petrol cars?

Are there any silly quirks I should know about with diesel ?

Any help much appreciated. :)

Cheers, Mik

Ah... good, I hate running in a car. Might still bed the brakes in though.

What bhp/torque would I be looking to get from a re-map on one of these?

Will the consumption drop into LCR territory again if I do?

I wouldn't say rag it from the start just don't be scared to give it some revs...I would avoid redlining the car until near the end of the run-in period.

I agree with Chris, max revs from the start the engine will use less oil later in life and perform better with higher mpg.
I was a finance manager at a toyota dealer and had 3 demo corolla t sports. I caned them from day one to 8200 rpm and they were better cars for it!
They never came back to the dealership with engine problems etc

Great.. I'll take a read of the FAQs now.

Thanks for all the replies :)

I did exactly the same as Chrisuk suggests. Brand new from the showroom, let the engine warm up to 90 degree's and then gave it plenty of stick. Never had a single problem with the engine, and the only oil loss i've suffered has been at a service when it gets changed.

Same here mate.

I've never actually had the need to top up the oil as of yet either :)

Best MPG I got was 61mpg (25 mile mixed run, low speeds), average around 48mpg (22 mile mixed motorway & town run).

You will still get over 50mpg on a decent run :)
