I've just called the local dealer for quote for 40,000 mile service. They want £430 for a few simple checks, oil and filter, new plugs, new air filter and fuel filter :wtf:. What a complete rip off [:@]. Can anyone recommend an independant SEAT garage for servicing in the South London / Surrey area? Many thanks.

Think the 40k is a fairly major service..certainly more than just "a few simple checks". Although, yes, that is hugely expensive.

Check your handbook to see what is actually required at the 40k service, and then get the dealer to tell you what they are intending to do.

When I had my '03 Mk4, the dealers tried persuading me to pay for a cambelt change at the 40k service instead of the scheduled 60k. I declined...

optional of course as always but don't forget belts run a schedule of time or mileage whichever is sooner

but agreed with asking them what they are actually quouting you for - eeek

What year is your car? Ask what it's for but if it includes the timing belt I'd generally it changed at 40 to 50k miles or 3 years, a little more conservative than most manufactures but better safe that sorry imo, especially on a petrol that's revved a fair bit.

In my case the car was on 40k and less than 2 years old, so should not have been ready for a change by any means...

But yes £430 does sound like something substantial is being done. Maybe that includes a brake fluid change - but I can't believe that would be too expensive (especially as when the dealers carried out my "brake fluid change", only one of the bleed nipples had actually been touched.....the other 3 still had a nice untouched layer of dirt over them - not really a change eh!!)
